Serial Story #1 - Darkness

Chapter 17

Darkness

Myka has been raised by the Weasley family her entire life. She has never known anything different - she doesn't believe what Fred and George, her older brothers, say about her being adopted. Sure, she looks completely different than they do. So what? They're her family...right? But when enrolls at Hogwarts, she is sorted into Slytherin. Intrigued, she wants to know more but is scared to venture into the unknown. Until, for a family project in History of Magic, she starts to write about Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, Ron, and her little sister Ginny, but it just doesn't feel right. Instead, she goes on a quest to discover who she is, where she comes from, and why someone has left a note telling her that she has the power to save the entire wizarding world - or destroy it.

Chapter Two.

Myka heaved her trunk over the threshold and boarded the Hogwarts Express with her brothers. Ginny was staying behind this year, and she would miss her little sister's company. She didn't want to crash the boys' compartment, so she opened the door of the nearest one and stepped inside.

There were a few boys her own age and one or two older inside. There was a very pale blond boy, two boys (one on either side of him) with dark hair who looked like boulders, a darker-skinned boy with a handsome smirk, and an older boy in Slytherin robes.

The blond one jerked his chin at her. "Who are you?"

She tucked a strand of black hair behind her ear. "I'm Myka. Myka Weasley."

"Funny," the older boy grunted. "You don't look like a Weasley."

It was true, she didn't, not truly. The other members of her family were all tall and red-headed. She was shorter, with hair almost black. She had a spray of freckles across her tiny nose, and her eyes were a striking emerald green.

"What's it to you?" she snapped uncharacteristically.

The blond boy curled his lip. "Weasleys are blood traitors."

Before she could control herself, Myka reached her hand out and slapped him across the face, hard enough to leave a red mark. "Say that again," she growled, hair falling in her eyes. "See what happens."

The older boy looked appreciative. "I guess you can sit with us. I'm Marcus Flint."

The blond held his cheek and glared at her. "I'm Draco Malfoy, and you've just made yourself a new enemy."

"Fine," Myka said coolly, sitting down. "We could have been friends, but you ruled that out with your first comment." She turned to Marcus Flint and began to talk about the first thing that came to mind- Quidditch.

***************

Myka stood with the other first-years in line, anticipating her turn under the Sorting Hat. Everyone in her family had been in Gryffindor, but why didn't she want to be one? Somehow, inside, she craved something different, needed something other. She felt as though a different house was in her blood- but that couldn't possibly be true.

"Weasley, Myka!"

She stepped up to the stool and inhaled deeply as the hat was placed on her head.

Hmmm, I see a fascinating history in you. There are many things you don't know about yourself...best not to tell you. You are an earthshaker, my dear. You have the magic and strength inside of you to save or destroy the wizarding world as we know it. The choice, when it comes time, will be up to you. You aren't a Gryffindor, not nice enough for Hufflepuff. That leaves us with a crossroads. You are intelligent, yes, but this power runs deep in your soul. "SLYTHERIN!" The hat cried out, and the table in the far back applauded.

Myka removed the hat, stepped off the stool, and headed to the back table, towards her new destiny.
