I was writing a letter to my family back at home when two owls flew up to my window. The first letter I read was from Hagrid telling me to come down to his hut alone. That was all the letter said. The second letter I read was from someone I didn't know. The letter was signed Thomas Rivvilo. The letter was telling her to come to the forbidden forest near the fallen giant oak tree. I decided to put both letters in my bag, along with my wand, my cloak, and two daggers I had stolen from home for protection. I had snuck the daggers into my bag when my uncle Ron had cornered me at home, warning me that I'll need as much protection as I can get.

I put on my sweater, my jeans, and my thick woolen socks. I slipped on my shoes and decided to put on my extra cloak, as it looked chilly outside. As I was leaving my dorm, I grabbed both of my maps and stuffed them into my bag as well. One map was the one given to me by the Slytherins. The other I had received with a letter from my dad. The one I got from my dad came with two enchantments. One was, "I solemnly swear that I'm up to no good." The other enchantment was, "Mischeif managed." I hadn't gotten to use it yet, but now seemed like a pretty good time as any.
