-Feature Theatrical Article: Tregarten Towers - The New Theatrical Academy-
This issue I am excited to inform theatrical lovers reading this book of an exciting new announcement that we heard of today. Another Wizarding School is going to be opened in Ireland! However, this school does not only specialise in witchcraft and wizardry, but also the performing arts!
There are many witches and wizards out thee who wish to take a stage career but also learn magic, and now it seems Tregarten Towers will become their haven. The school welcomes students from all across the globe to school auditions as long as they are fluent in English and offer a variety of courses themed around drama, singing, dance and behind the scenes occupations. Here is some more information I managed to gather after my written interview to one of the founders, Jemima Morse, was surprisingly answered in a pleasant and thorough fashion. The headlines were my questions in the original letter:
Who are the Founders of the School?
Like at Hogwarts, four witches and wizards, one of them being me, founded the school and each of us have a house named after our previous stage professor in the muggle world. I will rule the roost of House Drama, as I was previously an actress on stage, and my fellow founders Damian Linton, Tarah Anderson and Miko Tinet will govern the remaining three houses: House Vocal, House Techo and House Dance.
Roughly whereabouts is the School Located?
Tregarten Towers School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is located in the Curlew Mountains, West Ireland.
Any clues to what the building or grounds of the School are like?
The building is a grey-stone fairytale castle-like building and is set atop a small hill. The grounds include Care of Magical Creatures pens, Greenhouses, a Quidditch Pitch for inter-house competition, gardens, a forest and a small and clear tarn (lake).
Are all the magical courses available at the School as well as Theatrical ones?
Yes. The syllabus includes all the mainstream classes found at Hogwarts and other schools as well as twelve themed theatrical courses specialising in certain elements of theatre.
When are the auditions and what will they be like? *
The auditions for Tregarten Towers will be held over the course of a week from the 20th – 27th of February, so any signing up now will have plenty of time to prepare. You will need to present three or two pieces showing your Dance, Drama and Singing skills if you wish to try out for the on stage houses or bring a work presentation and request an interview if you wish to try out for the backstage house. However, even though we are accepting many students for these auditions, less than half of that number will be chosen for our first students.
What are the age limits for trying out for the school? *
The school invites students from the ages of thirteen to eighteen, and will also be adding a Muggle university-like platform next year for which you can also audition for if you are the correct age.
Are there any extra fees to pay if one is accepted to the school?
With exception of the extra textbooks and syllabus equipment (dance wear and so on), no. Everything is funded for by the ministry, us founders and by a magical theatrical company.
Is there any guarantee of students receiving performance jobs via the school?
Yes – there will be a few magical theatrical agents who will come in if a suitable job arises. They will review students and choose which will/should audition.
