- Small, pale green water demons with horns
- 3-5' tall
- XX – can be kept for short time
- Live in lakes in Great Britain and Ireland
- Dark Creatures – b/c they eat humans – not for a long time
- Feed mostly on fish and algae
- Will feed on fish more in high stress environment
- More in freshwater
- Typically negative response toward humans
- Keeping
o Large tank needed
o Plenty of foliage, for hiding
o Lots of fish, keep them neutral towards you
o Important to keep them neutral to you
- Typically positive towards merpeople; live in same environment and coexist
- Little known about habits
o Assumed active during day, rest at night
- Mating – assumed like mammals with live birth
o Always twins
o Either a boy, one girl, or two girls
§ With two girls, only one fertile
o Babies called grindas (wizards) or beba (merpeople)
§ Feed on algae until 3 months, then add fish
§ Most stay with family
- Have magic
o Create sparks (yellow-white)
§ Used to kill fish and distract humans
§ Warning symbol
o Move objects
o Don't use often
o Use handmade spears or other weapons to kill fish
o Use when extremely angry or agitated
- History
o Dark creatures – beast that does something considered disturbing (ie eat humans)
o Dark magic does not mean dark creature
o Grindylows have no dark magic association
o Last grindylow mauling 1679
§ Wizard continually harassed the colony, even after warning sparks
o Most famous Grindylow mauling - Uric the Oddball in the Middle ages
§ Fwooper's cries made him crazy

§ Floated into Grindylow colony who hadn't had meat in quite some time b/c fish shortage
