Just Boring School Life...

Chapter 4

The next few weeks were a bit...meh.

I still hadn't made any new friends, despite seeming to have a connection with Skye Taylor, even if it was just for a bit, I thought we could've been friends. She was the popular, out-going one of our year, and everyone knew her name, and I was just known as the studious, quiet girl, because that's all I really was.

I was sitting in the Common room in front of the toasty fire today, clutching a big, hardback novel and scrutinizing the blurb. It was a book I had checked out of the library a few days ago, called The Lost Legend of Our Generation. It wasn't a newly published book, but it took place this year, which seemed quite odd as all the other books I had read in the library had been set in the past, and hardly ever the future.

I was just about to start reading when I heard a soft crying behind me.

I turned to see a crouched figure huddled on the smallest sofa in the room, and I wasn't sure whether to comfort them or just ignore them.

" I know you're judging me, Clover. Most people don't.....usually see me like this." She sniffled and then lifted her face.

Skye Taylor looked at me with a sad smile, before bursting into tears again. This wasn't like her...

I stifled a gasp, and scurried over to comfort her. Now keep in mind, I wasn't used to this sort of ish, so I had no idea what I was doing. Hey, I'm no social butterfly.

" Hey, don't....don't cry. What happened?" I tried to sound reassuring, but I don't think I succeeded.

" It was....Shauna Ruberst," She mumbled with a sigh.

Uh oh.

Shauna Ruberst is just a synonym for Trouble. She isn't immensely pretty, so I'm guessing she dedicates her life to shaming those who are. And Skye is pretty. Shauna is older than all of the first years, and is a Ravenclaw, surprisingly.

I knew she and Skye are - or were - best friends. Something must have happened between them, and my inner Slytherin was telling me that this was a chance to make a friend, and that I should grab it, not let it slip past my grasp.

" It's all right, tell me what happened. I wont tell anyone if you don't want me to." I gave her a soft smile.

" I know you're trying to respect my private issues, but everyone already knows! Shauna told everyone! Not just all the Ravenclaws, but even the Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs of our year know! And I expect it wont be long before the Slytherins come to gloat about it too! Only a month here, and already my life is falling apart! "

I didn't know if she was talking to me, or just to herself, but I knew now wasn't the time to address that.

I opened my mouth to reply, but she already cut me off.

" Hey, I'm gonna go...get some kip. It's been a.....long day for me. See you later, Clover. Maybe we can be friends now, huh? "

My eyes widened, but then she gave a small chuckle. Yeah, right. Of course she didn't mean it.

" G' night, Clover."

" Goodnight...Skye. "
