The Founding Of Hufflepuff House
Chapter 3
As we all know, Hogwarts was built upon the foundations set by the four founders: Godric
Gryffindor, Salazar Slytherin, Rowena Ravenclaw and Helga Hufflepuff.
Unlike the other founders who were selective of their students based on certain traits they possessed, Hufflepuff
welcomed all students into her classroom, regardless of background or skills. This is the working of a true educator,
determined to pass on her learning to any and all students eager to learn. This choice of Hufflepuff illustrates the
tolerance Hufflepuff house preaches. The respect Helga Hufflepuff gave and potential she saw in all students embodies
the respect and fairness of Hogwart's most underestimated house.
Helga Hufflepuff was also well known for her talent in the kitchen. Compared with Gryffindor's fencing abilities or
Ravenclaw's intimidating beauty, this talent seems quite domestic and unimpressive. However, this talent embodies the
warmth and almost maternal tendencies of Hufflepuff house. It wasn't that Hufflepuff didn't possess more powerful
magical abilities, it was that she chose to use her powers to nurture and bring happiness to others rather than seek
fame in more, for lack of a better word, impressive fields. This understanding of the beauty and potential for simplicity of
life represents the mistakenly less revered wisdom of Hufflepuff House. Helga seemed to understand that, in the end,
no amount of power or wisdom will compare with the comforts and happiness brought about by a good meal.
