-PART THREE-

Katherine felt like reeling back in horror as she realised what she was. Because, as a ghost expert, she knew what her similarity to this character meant. She was a reincarnation. A reincarnation of the girl who had died in this accident. And Stone...Stone must have been the same. She looked from him to Laurence and knew this was no time for games. Suddenly Kathy realised she wasn't doing this for her job, or to impress the board. She was doing this to find herself. To solve the mystery.

"Where are the teachers? What are they hunting?" She demanded, standing up and looking at Laurence. The older student seemed confused and taken aback by her behaviour, which wasn't surprising, but she had no time. "Laurence, just tell me!" She said loudly as he stared at her.

"They had to leave the school...he's out there. They're out there. All of them." The student answered, Katherine not missing the tremor in his voice.

"Who are they?" She asked, wishing she was her real size ad not a tiny thirteen-year-old.

Stone tugged on her sleeve. "Kim...Kim, what's wrong. Are you ok?"

She knew she'd have to pretend now. Looking at Stone, she sighed, turned and then put on a smile. "Look, let's get to the bottom of this. Tell me everything about what's happened here."

Laurence looked at her, still confused. "Kim, we already know-"

"Yes, yes, we do." She said hurriedly, looking at the clock. Ten Minutes past midnight in this age and modern day. She had till one o'clock before the ghosts disappeared. "But tell me again. Let's go through everything we already know."

Laurence stirred and looked at Stone, who was trembling slightly as he realised they weren't safe. That Laurence wasn't going to be able to protect them if the thing that was out there attacked the school. Laurence, turning back to Kathy, said quietly. "Kim, we can't do this. We have to keep the party going otherwise they'll start to panic."

"Then let's go upstairs." She said resolutelyl. "I need to know what's going on, Laurence.

"You're a third-year, Kim." He told her. "I can't tell you."

"Who's here to help you, Laurence?" She asked stubbornly. "Who?"

He blushed. "The seventh and sixth-years are all out with the staff, you know that." He answered uneasily. "And the others are upstairs. I'm charged with keeping watch. Now go, Kim."

"No." Stone was looking from her to Laurence in worry, but she ignored him. "Tell me what's going on, Laurence, now."

Laurence opened his mouth, but all of a sudden, there was a knock at the door that brought Kathy back to her senses. She realised that it was just her, Laurence and Stone in the entrance hall. The rest of the students were in the main hall and the room in which she had first seen Stone. Quickly, she crept forward and closed the door to the other halls. Leon was looking at the door with wild, scared eyes, but with her adult mind, Kathy wasn't scared, only eager to get to the bottom of the mystery. Slowly, gingerly, she crept across the carpet. She reached for the door handle, ignoring Leon's choked 'Kim, no!' - and opened the door.
