Writer'S Advice And Book Reviews

Chapter 13

-Writer's Advice and Book Reviews-

WRITER'S ADVICE:

Tip One - Never Give Up!

(Maria Fell)

Hello Young and Current Writers,

Writing is an art and there are so many wonderful books, stories, fan fiction out there. As a small piece of writers advice to you. Would be....

Never Give Up!

There are so many times when you may get writers block, or just lost of what to do next but don't be. Life is puzzling as it is and people want to see your work. So don't give up.

If you do pick yourself up and take breaks. Read someone elses work. Just keep at it. You can do it.

Tip Two - Careful With the Pace!

(Lilia Le Fay)

Pace is one
of the most difficult things to get right when constructing a novel. It has
taken me four books to get my pace of progression moderately good, and I
believe it is something that must be learnt with practice and work.

For instance,
conversations must have the right speed. You can’t get to the point straight
away, there has to be hesitation and unclear answers from the characters
talking before reaching the purpose of the conversation. In my mind,
conversation pace is the hardest of all.

Also make
sure chapters have good pace, so there are some in which not much happens for
the main storyline, it’s just a scene between the characters or something.
Descriptions also help slow the pace, and read your work afterwards to see if
it progresses slowly enough. It may seem boring because you want to get to the
exciting parts of your story, but to write a good book you need to get this
feature right. Pace makes up the storyline just a much as good plotlines and
characters, and without pace the book seems very basic and not much fun to
read.

That’s my
writer’s advice for the issue. I hope you keep it to mind, as the element of
pace is very important.

BOOK REVIEWS:

Newest Book in the Hogwarts Library:

Book Chosen: Lagomorphs (The Eaglesclaw Chronicles, Book #1)

Author: Jamie Roballo

(Rated by Lilia Le Fay)

The first part of an upcoming series centred on an American School of Magic, the first three chapters of this book give us the impression that the Eaglesclaw Chronicles will truly be worth reading. The pace is a little fast, however, and the main character, Jade, just a little to perfect. However, the English is excellent, as are the descriptions and concepts, and the book should be read by all. LINK TO BOOK HERE

Muggle Non-Fiction Book:

Book Chosen: The Organized Mind

Author: Daniel J. Levitin

(Rated by Lilia Le Fay)

Both revealing and interesting, The Organized Mind covers the way us Human Beings manage to get befuddled, stressed and unproductive by multitasking, using computers before bed and a variety of other things. For instance do you know that when you receive a message or a text on a device, a small amount of a chemical called dopamine is realized into you brain and acts upon it like opium?

Written by Neurologist Daniel Levitin, this book is a must read to improve your mind and understand what you’re really doing to it.

Completed Books in the Hogwarts Library:

Book Chosen: The Circle

Author: Aralynne Galen

(Rated by Lilia Le Fay)

A short but both enticing and interesting book, The Circle involves the story of a young Vampire, Aralynne, as her life takes a few unexpected twists and turns and becomes a constant struggle with murderous instincts, a forbidden love and a visit from her past. Written in the first person, it impacts with short sentences and Vampiric feelings that you would not relate to Twilight. The concepts are different from others, and though short, it keeps you reading right till the very end. The pace is a little fast, however, and the character’s slightly undeveloped, but overall this book is a must read on the Hogwarts Shelves. LINK TO BOOK HERE
