Chapter 19

Jade was packing her trunk again, but this time, Alana was packing with
her. They, along with West, were going to spend the Halloween weekend at
Alana's house in Vermont.

"I can't wait to see what next month brings," Alana said, heaping balled-up socks and unwashed Quidditch robes into her trunk.

"Yeah,"
Jade said dreamily, carefully folding her phoenix costume. Last night
had been one of the best days of her life. They had danced until
midnight, then stolen some extra sweets, trekked down to their
dormitories, and fallen asleep still in their gowns and masks. It had
been perfect. "Maybe we'll see a unicorn!"

"Or get to battle an Acromantula!" Alana cheered from where she was trying (and failing) to fit her broomstick in her trunk.

West
pushed the door open and perched on one of the chairs that was in their
dormitory. "Maybe we'll get to go abroad somewhere cool!"

Jade
wrapped her mask in tissue paper and sealed it with Spell-O-Tape. "I'll
get a new wand, that's for sure." Hers, as far as she knew, was still in
splinters on that cliff. She had liked that one, but a new wand might
do her some good. Phoenix tail feather, of course.

"We can all go shopping together!"

"I need some new robes," Alana said in dismay, staring at her sweat-stained, wrinkled and torn Quidditch uniform.

The
three girls grabbed their trunks and dragged them outside, to where a
trio of hippogryphs waited to carry them to their destination. They all
hugged before climbing on and flying off into the sun, towards new
adventures and new beginnings.
