Cedric’s POV
“Hi.”
When Cedric had spoken up to the girl, he hadn’t really thought anything. He just saw a girl who, like him, had wanted to be in Gryffindor. He just saw a girl who he could help, a girl whom he could make smile. But when that seemingly normal girl turned around, Cedric felt his heart flutter, and he knew his cheeks were red.
She was stunningly beautiful.
Her eyes were bright blue, and he couldn’t take his eyes off of them. Her hair was long and a pale blonde shade that looked almost white.
He was at a loss for what to say, so he was happy when his friend Maya spoke first. Until he heard what she said.
“Is that your twin?”
That, he thought, was a mistake. Her face clouded, and Cedric’s brain had cleared enough to understand that she didn’t want to only be known as her twin’s, well, twin. She looked like she wanted to say that she was much more than just the twin of a certain popular Gryffindor, and he definitely agreed. She was beautiful, and way more than a twin. She also looked like she was second to her twin, and didn’t like it.
That didn’t go into her words, though.
“Yeah,” she said, smiling softly. “That’s Erika. I’m Ediline. Ediline Malcolm.”
Ediline. Even her name was beautiful and unique.
“What are your names?” She asked, her tone becoming curious.
“I’m Maya Weaver.”
“Cedric.” He said.
“Oh… Aren’t you a Diggory? I thought you’d be in Gryffindor.”
“My father is going to be quite mad at me. He’ll say something like, 'Why didn’t you get into wonderful Gryffindor like your family has been in for decades?’. I’m not looking forward to telling him.” He suddenly realised that he was ranting, and was about to apologise when she said:
“I’m not looking forward to telling my mum either. She’ll say, ‘Why are you so different from your perfect twin sister Erika? Aren’t you twins? You should be able to do as much as she can.’”
“Lucky for me, my whole family’s been in Hufflepuff, so I’m not not looking forward to telling my parents.” Maya said, grinning, before her smile dropped. “That’s Michelle’s problem.”
“I’d say I’m jealous of you, but I think that’s Ediline’s line since my problems sound pathetic compared to hers.” Cedric chuckled.
“Because they are terribly pathetic.”
He joked with the two girls, not really meaning it when he said Ediline’s hair was pathetic. He thought her hair was wonderful and beautiful, but of course he didn’t say that out loud.
He blushed slightly, however, when they spoke in sync, saying “Oops, sorry.”, and couldn’t help whispering into Ediline’s ear about whether he could call her “Edi”. She in turn said she’d call him “Ceddy”. Maya smirked and agreed with the new nickname, but Cedric objected, and asked them to please call him “Ced” instead. Ediline gave in, but Maya stubbornly refused to budge until Cedric gave her his best puppy eyes. She giggled and said, “Fine, Ceddy”, resulting in him tickling her until both her and Ediline burst out into laughter. The teachers frowned at them, but Cedric didn’t care, because he could now call the pretty and kind girl, Ediline Malcolm, his friend.
