Ediline’s POV
You don’t have to do everything she did.
Being in her twin’s shadow was hard. No matter how hard Ediline tried, she just couldn’t be as good as her overachieving perfect sister Erika. The two girls were identical in everything but their personalities and their first and middle names. Erika Alessia was outgoing, popular, and smart. On the contrary, Ediline Latifa was shy, kind, and thoughtful. So it came as no surprise that they were Sorted into different Houses. Erika into Gryffindor, and Ediline into Hufflepuff.
To their surprise, there were two other pairs of twins in their year. The twin boys were Sorted into Gryffindor, while the twin girls were separated and Sorted into Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. Erika started talking to the boys, and she immediately got along with them, especially with the older twin.
Ediline watched them wistfully, wondering why she couldn’t make friends as easily and as casually as her twin.
“Hi.” Someone said suddenly.
Ediline turned around, surprised. She met the grey eyes of a boy with dark coloured hair. Next to him was a girl with tanned skin and mousy brown hair. They had been Sorted into Hufflepuff before her.
“Is that your twin?” The girl asked, like people always did when they met Erika and Ediline.
“Yeah.” She said, frowning. She was slightly irritated, before remembering that the girl had a twin too. “That’s Erika. I’m Ediline. Ediline Malcolm. What’s your name?”
“I’m Maya Weaver.”
“Cedric.”
“Oh… Aren’t you a Diggory? I thought you’d be in Gryffindor.”
He looked grim. “My father is going to be quite mad at me. He’ll say something like, 'Why didn’t you get into the great Gryffindor like your family has been in for decades?’. I’m not looking forward to telling him.”
“I’m not looking forward to telling my mum either. She’ll say, ‘Why are you so different from your perfect twin sister Erika? Aren’t you identical twins? You should be able to do as much as she can.’”
“Lucky for me, my whole family’s been in Hufflepuff, so I’m not not looking forward to telling my parents.” Maya said, grinning, before her smile dropped. “That’s Michelle’s problem.”
“I’d say I’m jealous of you, but I think that’s Ediline’s line since my problems sound pathetic compared to hers.” Cedric chuckled.
“Maybe because they are terribly pathetic.” Ediline said, grinning.
“Oh no they’re not. What is terribly pathetic is the state of your hair.” Cedric teased her.
“My hair is great.” She defended.
“My hair is probably better than the two of your great-hair-ness combined!” Maya smirked.
“Well, I’m sorry you can’t see the obvious.” Cedric argued.
“You’re right, it’s not great. It’s wonderfully perfect.” Ediline replied, letting a hint of sarcasm.
None of them noticed that the whole Hall’s attention was on the three of them until Professor Dumbledore cleared his throat.
“Oops. Sorry.” Cedric and Ediline said at the same time. They sat up straight and tried to listen to Professor Dumbledore’s speech, but Maya and Cedric kept whispering in Ediline’s ear and she kept giggling quietly.
3rd Person POV
Over at the Gryffindor table, a certain boy was glancing over to the Hufflepuff table at Ediline. He too had an identical twin who looked like him to the last freckle. He found Ediline interesting. Both of them were the younger, less noticed twin, and the quieter one. Both of them were jealous of the older twin. In his case, the older twin was Fred Weasley, who had not stopped talking to Erika Malcolm since he joined Gryffindor House. George frowned as he watched Cedric Diggory and Maya Weaver, the Weasleys’ pureblood good-looking neighbours, talk to Ediline. They sat up straight when Professor Dumbledore cleared his throat and said in unison, “Oops. Sorry.” George looked on in jealousy as Maya and Cedric whispered into Ediline’s ear and she giggled.
George was definitely falling for Ediline.
