Gryffindor Common Room, Friends, & Quidditch Talk

Chapter 2

In the cozy confines of the Gryffindor common room at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, George and Fred Weasley huddled around the peculiar piece of parchment. The worn-out paper seemed ordinary at first glance, but Fred felt a sense of connection with it back in Filch’s office.

Curiosity piqued, the Weasley twins huddled around the parchment, inspecting it closely. The paper was brittle and yellowed with age, covered in intricate lines and faded ink. There were no visible clues or explanations as to its true purpose.

They wasted a whole afternoon trying to understand it. First they slowly peeled it open and waited for the magic to reveal itself. When that didn’t work they carefully folded it back up and stared at it a bit longer. They took turns talking to it. George talking sweetly and softly as if it was a lost, scared puppy. Fred demanding and authoritatively as if it was a hard criminal and he was an Auror. They were determined to find something unordinary with it.

Fred was so sure it was something more than a spare piece of parchment, but now he seemed silly hovering over it, waiting for it to do something.

“Should we try writing on it?” George offered, he didn’t quite understand the fascination Fred had with it but went along with it.

“You can. But it seems useless at this point. I was probably high on adrenaline or something.” Fred shrugged and got up from his spot on the couch, he needed to stretch his shoulders and think about something else for a while. “Should we go down for supper at least?”

George glanced at the clock hanging in the Gryffindor tower, his eyes nearly bugged out, did they really waste that much time on this stupid piece of parchment? “Yeah, let's refuel and come back to it.” He slid the ancient piece of parchment from the coffee table and into his bag.

“Should we set off a couple of dungbombs on our way to the Great Hall? Or do you think Filch has forgotten about us yet?” The mischievous glint was starting to come back in Fred’s face.

“Oh definitely the dungbombs better be on the safe side. Filch may be old but he will never forget that he let a Weasley escape his office without detention.” George grabbed his twin by the shoulder and they walked side by side to the Great Hall.

In the bustling Great Hall of Hogwarts, Fred and George, accompanied by their group of loyal friends, found themselves seated at their usual spot among the Gryffindor table. The air was filled with lively chatter and the aroma of delicious food as students from all houses filled the hall.

Lee Jordan, Angelina Johnson, and Alicia Spinnet were already engaged in an animated discussion about the upcoming Quidditch game, Gryffindor against Ravenclaw. Excitement buzzed in the air as they eagerly shared their thoughts and strategies.

“Alright, listen up, team. This game against Ravenclaw is our chance to show them what Gryffindor is made of!” Lee said enthusiastically waving his fork in the air causing crumbs to go flying. The girls recoiled in disgust and shook the food particles out of their hair.

“Lee! I get you’re excited for the match but can you keep your dinner to yourself, please?” Begged Alicia.

“Sorry mate.” Lee grinned sheepishly and quickly shoveled more food into his mouth.

“Absolutely, Lee. We’ve been training hard, and it’s time to put our skills to the test. Ravenclaw won’t know what hit them!” Charlie Weasley, captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team beamed. “Are you still planning on commentating Lee?”

“Nothing will stop me Captain.”

“It's your first one are, you sure you aren’t nervous?”

“Me? Nervous? No way! I was born for this. No one knows Quidditch better than me, well maybe besides the actual players but that’s beside the point.”

“He has been commentating on Quidditch games since first year, might as well give him a mic at this point.” Fred joked, reminiscing about the days when he, George, and Lee would watch from the stands. Lee would ramble and talk the whole thing out. George would always joke that he could close eyes and see the whole thing play before him just through Lee’s words alone.

“Speaking of firsts,” Charlie turned to stare at his brothers, “how are we feeling?”

Fred made a whole show of looking up in the air at nothing, swirling his head around as if to search for the exact word to use, “Serendipity,” he answered after a beat. “What about you, Georgie?”

“A little light-headed and ravenous at the moment, thanks for asking.”

Charlie lowered his head into his hands, “I swear to Merlin, if you two hadn’t been the best to try out I wouldn’t have put either of you on the team.”

“Don’t worry big brother, we’ve got this.” George reassured him.

“Oh Charlie!” Alicia, with her sharp instincts as a chaser, added, “We need to keep a close eye on their seeker. If we can secure the majority of the goals early on, it’ll put the pressure on them to catch up.”

Lee interjected, his eyes gliding mischievously. “And you know, we can always add a little extra flair to the match. How about a surprise move or two? Catch them off guard?”

Angelina chuckled, her competitive spirit shining through. “I like the way you think, Lee. Let’s throw in some unconventional strategies. We’ll leave them scratching their heads, wondering what hit them.”

“Woah team, calm down. Let’s save the fireworks for the victory celebration. We want to win this game fair and square. Our skills are more than enough to triumph over Ravenclaw. We just need to keep our heads calm, cool, and collective. One more practice before the game,” Charlie stood up and started to collect his things.

“Done already captain? I thought we could go over reinforcements and tactics.” Alicia tried to hide her disappointment, she had so much insight on keeping the seeker on top form, so he would be lightning-fast, and ready to snatch the Snitch just at the right moment.

“I have a study date waiting for me,” Charlie nodded to a Ravenclaw girl with dark brown hair waiting by the Great Hall doors for him, “sorry to disappoint the team. But we can go over any key points at our next practice, Alicia.”

“Hey he’s fraternizing with the enemy!” George yelled loudly after his older brother as he started to walk away.

“A ravenclaw!” Gasped Fred, “Out of all the houses, she chose to dig her claws into our brother! They sent her as a spy!”

“Fred! George!” Barked Charlie, his face growing redder, “Keep it down. There is no fraternizing, no enemy. She’s not even on the Quidditch team. And she’s just a friend!” And away Charlie stormed off to get away from his younger brothers.

Fred and George watched him intently as Charlie met up with his study lady-friend. As Charlie got closer, her radiant smile mirrored the same excitement in Charlie’s eyes. She was dressed in freshly pressed robes, this mystery student exuded an air of elegance and confidence that caught the attention of those around her. Her chestnut locks cascaded in gentle waves, framing her face with a natural grace that seems to capture the very essence of her captivating spirit. Their mouths dropped open as they watched Charlie effortlessly greet his friend and take her school books to carry for her. When did Charlie become so suave with the ladies?

“Who is she?” George blurted out loud.

“What has she done to our brother?” Stumbled out of Fred’s mouth.

“When did this happen?”

“Where did she come from?”

“How have we never noticed her before?”

Fred and George were completely unable to process the scene that was happening before them, that they didn’t even notice Percy’s presence. “That is the famous and ever graceful Gisella Featherbridge. Don’t worry about your precious Quidditch, she isn’t even allowed on the Quidditch team. Her family completely forbids it. They would probably have a conniption if they knew she was spending her time with a Weasley and a quidditch player no doubt.” He shrugged his scrawny shoulders and left his younger brothers flabbergasted.
