The New Girl
Chapter 1
"Wait up!" I call to my best friend, Charlie, as we sprint to make it to 6th period on time.
"If you wanna make it, we gotta run" Charlie replied, breathing heavily. Charlie has dyslexia and asthma. Because I choose to hang out with him, we are the main targets of the school bullies, the "Tigers". I eventually catch up to Charlie and we quietly walk into Ms. Humbert's classroom.
She looks up over her spectacles when we arrive through the door and mutters "You're late". There's a snicker from the back of the room and we look down sheepishly. "Well go on. To your seats then." Charlie plops down in the front row next to the nerd, Jeremy Fry, whereas I have to sit in the last row next to John Nickelson, the leader of the "Tigers".
"What's up, bro?" He chuckles. "Late again?"
"Oh, shut up!" I mumble.
"What was that?" Ms. Humbert glances up from her heavy-duty text book. "Would you care to tell the class what you just said, Mr. Meyer?"
"No thank you, ma'am" I say.
---10 MINUTES LATER---
"Phew!" I look up surprised to see a girl, no wait, a gorgeous girl stumble into the classroom. She whispers something to Ms. Humbert and she nods.
"Very well, welcome to Rydell High School, Ms.........?"
"Hern, Jewel Hern"
"Well welcome, Ms. Hern, I'm sure Mr. Meyer will show you around after class, won't you Alex?"
"Huh?" I can't help noticing her long sleek black hair...
"Mr. Meyer??!!"
"Oh uh, yes ma'am" I mumble... did she just smile at me??!! I quickly gesture at Jewel to the empty seat next to me and she nods in understanding. She skips down the aisle and dumps her stuff at the back of the room.
"Hi" She smiles.
"Hi" I whisper. "You're gorgeous..."
"Um, what?" She blushes profusely.
"I mean..." I can't believe that I just said...
RING! RING! "Schools out! See you tomorrow!" Ms. Humbert shouts over the obnoxious ringing of the bell.
"Meet me under the bleachers near the football field" I whisper directly in her ear.
"Okay" She whispers back. I can almost feel her warm breath tickling my ear. 'This has been a great day' I think.
