After weeks of studying from my mother's magical books, my excitement of going to Hogwarts only grew. I was starting to fantasize holding a wand while being surrounded by faceless friends that I had never had before.
One day I was sitting in the reading nook by my bedroom window reading my mother's copy of "Hogwarts a History", completely absorbed in what I was doing when I heard a rap on the window as if from a distance. It took a few persistent raps to get my full attention, and then I saw it. A huge eagle owl was perched on the ledge outside with a letter clamped firmly in its beak. I quickly opened the window, my excitement mounting and stepped back to let the owl through.
It gave a few flaps and settled down on my desk, turning its head expectantly to me. My fingers shook from nerves and glee now chasing circles inside my head. This was my very first message by owl! I took the letter and the owl zipped back out as quickly as it had come. I gazed at the loopy handwriting on the envelope and realized that this was what my mother had told me would come: my acceptance to Hogwarts!
I fumbled with the seal in my haste to get the letter open and read it over. It was signed by a woman named Minerva McGonagall and gave information on the start of term and necessary school supplies; just as my mother said it would. I read the letter 3 times to make sure I didn't miss anything and rushed downstairs to show mother.
Once I got to the kitchen I found her working on a document for her work (mother works for the Ministry of Magic in the Magical Creature Disposal Office). I thrust the letter into her hand and waited with baited breath as she scanned the letter. She took a long look at it and then smiled at me.
"Term starts the 1st of September, same as it was for me...and I see they're still using the train at King's Cross as well."
"I know I know! Can we go to Diggon Alley now, can we can we please!!!" I shouted as I jumped up and down with enthusiasm.
My mother snorted and chuckled as she said, "It's Diagon Alley Jessica!"
"Whatever I don't care, let's go!" I exclaimed practically yanking her out of her chair and dragging her across the room.
"Tomorrow I promise we'll go, but I have things to do today ok," mother stated firmly.
"Oh all right," I said slightly disappointed.
My mother gave me a sympathetic look and said, "Well...I suppose if I can get my work done early I can take you later tonight."
As my excitement begain to rekindle she corrected, "That is if you behave and let me do my work in peace, then I will take you."
"Yes yes yes yes yes!!! I will I promise I will!!!" I shouted as I ran back upstairs to do a victory dance. Tonight I would have my school supplies, tonight I would get my book, robes, potion ingredients, and best of all my very own wand! Tonight I would become a witch and make my family proud! Life could not be better in my current state of mind, nothing could bring me down!
