The Mysterious Fight

Chapter 7

---One Month Later---

"No!"

"I'm so sorry Danielle," Allison said with tears in her eyes.

"I can't believe you would do that to me," I sobbed as I ran out of the dormitory.

"Danielle!" I heard Allison cry as I slammed the door shut and ran down the stairs.

I didn't know what to do, I was just so furious and heartbroken at the same time. I put my face in my hands and ran out of the common room as fast as I could.

"What's wrong, Danielle?" I heard someone call after me, but I didn't answer.

Once I was out of the portrait hole, I ran down the stairs and went to the one place I could think of where I would be alone: the library. Once I got there, I sat down on a table stacked with books in the corner and wiped the tears out of my eyes.

I must have sat there silently sobbing for at least half an hour when I hear someone move nearby. Not wanting to talk to anyone, I put my head down on the table and listened to make sure whoever was there walked away before I put my head back up.

But I never heard them leave. In fact, I heard them getting closer to me. Their footsteps were drawing to a stop and I heard a book being set down on the table. I could also distinctly hear a chair being pulled away and someone sitting down. Looking up, I saw someone sitting in the chair looking directly at me.

It was Jake, Scott's obnoxious friend.

"Hey, are you okay?" he asked me, and he truly looked concerned.

"Does it look like I'm fine?" I said, wiping my eyes on my sleeve again.

"No, I guess not. But I wanted you to know that I had no part in that terrible thing," he said.

"Yeah I know, it was just Scott and Allison," I said and the thought made me start sobbing again.

"Hey, hey shhh," Jake said as he moved his chair closer to me and put his arm around my shoulder. "It's alright," you can talk to me.

His words were somewhat comforting to me and I stopped crying and looked at him. "Thanks, I just feel really betrayed right now, like I can't trust anyone."

"I don't blame you. I wouldn't either to be honest," Jake said and smiled at me.

Jake's smile was more overwhelming than Scott's, which was hard to beat. I stared at his eyes for a few seconds, which were electric blue, very different from Scott's dark brown.

"You got an eyelash over there," Jake said as he took his finger and wiped the eyelash away from my cheek.

"Oh, it must be from the crying," I said with a little laugh.

Jake smiled back at me and started to lean in, his hand still on my cheek. By instinct, I guess, I leaned in too and before I knew it, we were kissing. It was nothing like with Scott. Jake was a lot more passionate than Scott ever was. I pulled back realizing what I was doing.

"Everything okay?" Jake asked me, looking a little hurt.

"Yeah, it's fine," I said thinking through what happened. "Actually, it's not okay. But it's fine, let's just forget about it." I said and started to get up.

"Wait Danielle--," he started.

But I was already running out of the library. I ran as fast as I could back to the common room and up my dormitory. I saw that Allison was already in bed and not wanting to wake her up and start another fight, I got into my bed and pulled back the curtains.

How did all of this just happen? Why did I kiss Jake? I barely know him. But's that how it was like with Scott. Scott. The events of today came flooding back into me.
