But Why?
Chapter 6
My eyes popped open the next morning. I see Scott asleep next to me, and realize that we were still in the common room and I had fell asleep on his arm. To my relief, I knew that last night was not a dream. I stared at Scott's face for a few minutes, just thinking. How could I have possibly landed a guy like him? I was just a nerdy and awkward girl. He was a popular and good looking guy. After another few minutes of thinking, his eyes shot open. When he saw that I was awake, he smiled at me and kissed my forehead.
"Good morning, beautiful," he whispered. I loved how he could always find a way to compliment me.
"Hey," I whispered back.
"That was some night last night," he said as he got up.
"Yeah, I guess it was," I said as I also got up.
Scott picked up his shirt and put it back on. He grabbed his pants from the floor and said, "Listen, I'll meet you here in a little while to go down to breakfast." Before I could reply, he went up to his dormitory.
I was a little hurt. He barely even acknowledged me. There was nothing I could do about it at this point, I guess. We were still going to be alone for another two weeks, so there would be plenty of time to talk if we needed to.
I decided that I should probably get dressed. I picked up my clothes and went up to my dormitory as well. After I got dressed, I went down to the common room again. I found Scott waiting for me with his hands in his pockets. He smiled at me when he saw me and said, "Ready?"
"Yup. Let's go," I said.
And with that, we walked into the Great Hall where the tables were gone and there was a single small table with about twenty chairs. I thought this was a good idea since there would really be no point in having so many tables with so little people.
Scott and I walked to the almost full table and I sat down next to Leah, a Ravenclaw fifth year. Scott poured some cereal into my bowl, and then some into his.
"So are you guys like together now or something?" Leah asked me.
"Uh, yeah we've been together for a while actually," I told her.
"Oh, that's cute," she said as she smiled.
"Thanks," said Scott. I didn't even know he was listening to the conversation.
After breakfast, we went back up to the common room and decided to do our homework. Scott wasn't kidding before, we did have a lot of homework to do over the holidays.
As we started doing our Astronomy essay, what I was thinking about when I woke up this morning kept bothering me. I just could not concentrate and I had to do something about it.
"Why'd you do it?" I asked Scott.
"Huh?" he said as he looked up at me.
"Why did you ask me out? You've barely even spoken to me over the past four years even though we're in the same house and year. Why did you suddenly start talking to me so much and ask me to be your girlfriend?" I felt like I had asked him a little too harshly.
"Why wouldn't I do it? I've just been to nervous to talk to you for all these years," he said, as he awkwardly scratched his neck.
It still didn't make sense to me. How could I possibly land a guy like him?
"But why did you rush into everything, then?" I asked him.
"Oh, just to make up for some lost time," he said with a slight smile on his face.
I realized that I had been asking too many questions and decided to give it a break. I turned back down to my essay and continued writing. I was working for about a minute until I realized that Scott was still looking at me.
I looked back up at him and as soon as he made eye contact with him, he pulled me into a kiss.
After he let go of me, I asked him, "What was that for?"
"You're really cute when you work," he replied.
I blushed, and he smiled again at me.
"Why do you always compliment me?" I asked as I looked deep into his brown eyes.
He looked like he was thinking for a moment, looked straight back into my eyes and replied, "Because I love you."
