The Disappearing Headache
Chapter 4
I woke up to the loud and obnoxious singing from Allison. I couldn't really make out what she was singing, but it didn't help the headache I had at the moment. Trying to ignore my throbbing head, I looked up at her and said, "Why are you being so annoying?"
Seeing that I was finally awake, she said, "Today's the last day of term before the holidays!"
I can't believe I didn't realize that until now. Having a motivation, I got out of bed and got dressed. As I was going down to breakfast with Allison, she was going on about how she was going to skiing with her family on Christmas. I wasn't paying so much attention to her because my headache was still at large.
"At least you get to go somewhere. My parents are visiting my sister in Australia, so I'm stuck here for the holidays," I mumbled to her.
"Hey, it's okay! I know someone else who's staying here for the holidays," she said smiling.
"Really? Who?," I asked hopefully.
Allison rolled her eyes. "Um, your boyfriend! Scott! Did you forget or something?"
Indeed, I had completely forgotten that Scott was also staying for the break. He doesn't have a good relationship with his parents, so he tries to avoid seeing them whenever he can. I was going to ask him more about this, but it seemed like a touchy subject, so I dropped it.
We had finally reached the Great Hall and walked over to the Gryffindor table. As Allison was spreading butter on her toast, she asked me,"So how are things going between you and Scott anyways?"
"They're fine. He's just so sweet and I love how I can actually talk to him about things," I said. It was true. Scott was so supportive of me that I felt like I could tell him anything. I literally could find no flaws about him yet.
My thoughts were interrupted when Scott walked up to us. He sat down next to me, put his arm around my shoulder, said, "Hey gorgeous," and lightly kissed my forehead. My headache had suddenly disappeared when I saw him.
"Hey," I said, letting my head rest on his shoulder.
"Hi Scott!" said Allison.
"Hey Allison," Scott said, shifting his gaze to her. "How's Colton?"
Allison's expression immediately changed from cheery to annoyance. "Probably beating up another second year," she mumbled.
Colton was Allison's current boyfriend. They were always on and off in their relationship. Right now, I believe they have yet again hit a rough patch. To be honest, I personally didn't like Colton too much. He was too condescending and stuck up.
Realizing he had hit a soft spot, Scott hastily changed the subject. "So have you heard? There's only ten people staying at Hogwarts for the holidays, including us."
"Really? Who are they?" I asked.
"Four Hufflepuffs, two Ravenclaws, two Slytherins, and just the two of us for Gryffindor," he said as he counted them off on his fingers.
"Oh wow, just us?" I asked, surprised. There were usually a lot more people that stayed.
"Yeah, but I guess we can use the empty common room to our advantage," he said, smiling.
"Ew, that's gross guys." Allison said with an uncomfortable look on her face.
"Relax, I was talking about using it to do our homework. Do you realize how much work we've got over the break?", Scott said. But after he said it, I could have sworn that he winked at me.
"Whatever. We should go," Allison said standing up and swinging her bag over her shoulder.
"Yeah we should," I said as I also stood up.
Scott got up and kissed me on the cheek before saying, "I'll catch up with you later."
And he was gone.
