The Morning After
Chapter 14
I opened my eyes to the sight of Scott staring at me. He looked like he had been waiting for me to wake up. When he saw that I was finally awake, he leaned in and kissed my forehead.
"Good morning gorgeous," he whispered.
"I should get going," I said as I grabbed my shirt and started to slip it back on.
"Do you really have to though?" Scott asked as he grabbed my wrist in an attempt to keep me from leaving.
"Yeah, I really do. This was a mistake," I said as I broke my arm free from his grip and stood up.
"I know you had fun. Don't act like last night wasn't great," he said as he sat up and started to get out of the sleeping bag.
Ignoring him, I grabbed my sleeping bag and started to walk back to the castle. All of the events of last night started to come back to me. I just made the biggest mistake I had ever made in my entire life. I actually cheated on Jake. I betrayed him. I didn't know what to do. Should I tell him? No, no, that's stupid. He'll hate me forever. But if I don't tell him and he finds out later, that would be even worse.
I thought my head was going to explode from my thoughts being all over the place. I kept debating with myself when I crashed into someone because I was not even looking where I was walking.
"Oof! Sorry," I said as I looked up.
Yikes, it was Jake.
"Danni! I'm so sorry I never came back last night. When Sara and I went up to the castle to go get blankets, Professor Snape saw us and yelled at us for a solid half hour. He took 50 points away from Gryffindor and Sara started crying and--"
"Listen, Jake. It's alright, you have nothing to be sorry for," I said to him. I wish the same applied to me.
"Are you sure? I mean you must have been freezing."
"No, I was fine." Looking at Jake's concerned face, I assured him, "I'm serious. Don't worry about it."
Still not convinced, Jake finally said, "Oh alright then. Let's go back to the castle and get breakfast."
Jake put his arm around my shoulders and we started walking back up to the castle. I was so distracted by thoughts of Scott in my head that I could not concentrate on Jake. He was rambling about the Potions homework while I just added and occasional "yeah" and "oh".
When we got to the Great Hall, I realized what I had to do. I had to choose between Jake and Scott. This was going to be the hardest decision ever.
