Chapter 13
"Hey Danni, are you alright?"
"Hmm? Yeah, I'm good, Jake," I said as I was drawn away from my thoughts.
"So what do you think?" he asked me.
"About what?" I said, realizing that I had completely dozed off while he was talking to me.
"About sneaking out tonight?" Jake whispered.
"Oh yeah! I'm down if you are," I said skeptically.
"Yeah, so the plan is that we leave the common room with Scott and Sara when all the Professors are asleep. Then we sneak out of the castle with our sleeping bags and go to the lake, where we spend the night," Jake recited.
"Uh, yeah sounds good," I said, "WAIT...did you say we're going with Scott and Sara?"
"Yeah...if that makes you uncomfortable, then we can just cancel," Jake said with a sad look on his face.
"No, no, it's fine. We can just go," I said, not wanting to upset Jake.
"Great! I'll let Scott know the plan and we'll go tonight," he said as he stood up and kissed my cheek. "I gotta go, I'll see later, okay?"
"Mhmm," I mumbled as he started to walk away.
To be honest, I wasn't too excited about tonight. I was at first when Jake told me it was just going to be the two of us. But the thought of Scott being there with us scared me. Especially since he was there with Sara, his 'girlfriend'. I know he wasn't committed to an actual relationship with Sara. He was only with her because she had a reputation for being good at....well, something that Scott can benefit from.
I was nervous for the entire day, and I had anxiety over the whole situation. I tried to calm myself down, but I just couldn't. Finally, the time came when we had to sneak out. Jake grabbed my hand, and we started walking out of the common room, with Scott and Sara holding the sleeping bags. We were quiet and slipped out of the castle very discreetly. We walked over to the lake and set up our sleeping bags. I put my bag right next to Jake's and I saw Sara put hers right next to Scott's.
I realized that I hadn't said a word to either Scott or Sara on our way here and it felt a little awkward to me. After we had all set up our sleeping bags, we sat by the lake and dipped our feet inside. We sat there for a while and talked out classes; nothing unusual. After some time, we decided to go back to our sleeping bags and sleep since it was getting pretty cold and late. I stood up and being the clumsy girl I was, slipped on a rock and started to fall backwards into the lake. Right when I thought I was going to get soaked in the lake, a hand reached out and pulled me back to the ground. Feeling relieved, I was about to thank Jake when I realized it wasn't his hand on my arm. It was Scott's.
"Thanks," I mumbled.
"No problem," Scott said and he let go of my arm and smiled.
"You okay, Danni?" Jake said as he wrapped his arm around my shoulder.
"Yeah, I'm good," I said and kissed Jake. I swear I saw Scott watching us and he wasn't smiling anymore.
We walked back to the sleeping bags and sat down. I got into my sleeping bag and immediately felt cold. I was shivering and I realized that I had forgotten to bring a blanket. So I was just going to freeze to death tonight, right? I looked over at Scott's sleeping bag, which he was already in....with Sara. They were literally sharing a sleeping bag. I could hear Sara giggling and I saw lots of movement in their bag. I bet they felt warm, unlike me. I turned around on my other side and looked at Jake.
He was getting into his sleeping bag and I couldn't take the cold anymore, so I told Jake, "Hey, I'm kinda cold."
"Oh...how about I go up to the castle to get some blankets?" he asked me.
"Oh, uh, yeah sounds good," I said. I thought he was going to offer that we share a sleeping bag, but that obviously wasn't going to happen.
"You look cold already, I don't want you to come up with me if you're freezing," he said, "Scott! I'm going to go up to the castle to get a few blankets. You wanna come with?" Jake called to Scott.
"Oh, I'll go! I forgot something in my dormitory," Sara responded.
"Ok, Sara come with me and Danielle, stay here with Scott," Jake said, "I'll be back soon." He bent down to kiss my head and walked away with Sara.
I sat there shivering for a while and I really couldn't take the cold anymore. After ten minutes, I heard Scott say, "Danni? You okay?"
"D-d-don't call me that," I said, "and yeah I'm f-fine."
I was getting really worried when Jake and Sara weren't back after thirty more minutes. By now, it was obvious that they weren't showing. Something must have happened to them and I couldn't risk going after them. I thought it was better to stay put until morning. I guess I needed to tell Scott of my plans.
"Hey Scott, you awake?" I called.
"Yeah, how are you?" he asked.
"I don't think Jake and Sara are coming back and I'm really f-f-freaking cold right now," I said.
There was a pause. I thought Scott had fallen asleep.
"Hey, just come here with me. I don't want you freezing tonight," Scott said to me.
"Oh, um...are you sure that's such a good idea?" I asked him.
"Yeah, I'm positive. I can keep you warm. That's all." he answered.
"Oh, alright," I said and got out of my sleeping bag. I instantly felt a gust of cold wind and I got even colder. I ran over to Scott's sleeping bag and saw that he already set out space for me to sleep. I quickly squeezed into the sleeping bag and I felt warm. I thought I would never feel warm again. Scott sure had a lot of body heat. I felt his hands against my back and it felt like a heater.
"You good?" he asked me.
"Yeah, I'm feeling a lot better," I said.
"Good," he said as he wrapped his arms around me.
"Umm, what are you doing?" I asked.
"I'm trying to make you warmer," he said.
"Alright fine," I said because it felt nice.
I couldn't sleep so I turned around to face him. He was awake too and our eyes met.
"Can't sleep?" he asked me.
"Yup," I answered.
"Listen, I know our relationship was kind of messy and I don't want things to become awkward between us anymore. Can we just start over?" he asked me.
"Yeah, I've been thinking the same thing. That might be a good idea," I said.
"Good. Hi, I'm Scott. What's your name?" he said with a smirk.
"Hi, Scott. I'm Danielle," I said with a smile.
"Nice to meet you, Danni," he said with a chuckle.
"Don't call me that," I said, but laughed.
There was a pause.
He brought his hand up and intertwined his fingers in mine. I didn't find myself resisting and I kind of liked it. I guess he could see that I wasn't holding back, so he took his other hand and put it around my back. He then slowly leaned in and started to kiss me. I kissed him back.
We were making out for a while and I enjoyed every second of it. He moved the hand that was on my back slowly down my back until he reached my shorts. He let go of my hand and used it to pull off my shirt. I should have felt cold, but I didn't. He moved his hands down my waist and I shivered. Scott then started to kiss my neck and I heard myself moan a little. I then took off his shirt and looked at the familiar six pack.
"Ready?" he asked me.
"Ready," I said.
I was getting extreme Deja Vu. It was exactly like the first time we did this.
