Chapter 2
Max Stretched and reached into the back seat for his book bag. He reached for and pulled on his school vest and sighed. He hated the senior uniform but it also demanded respect from the other students. The seniors set the pace of the school year at Mountain High. He climbed out of the car and locked it up. He was about to head to his first class when someone came up and bumped him hard into his car. He turned around and started yelling at the person who did it but stopped when he saw James raise an eyebrow at him.
Max closed his mouth and frowned. James was one of the top kids in school. His parents were rich and nobody crossed James. James was a part of a very exclusive group that was selective with its members. James kept walking and Max shivered. A confrontation with James was the last thing he wanted or needed especially on the first day of school. James was also a senior. Max slung his bag over his shoulder and walked to his first class.
Max reached his first class and was horrified to find the only empty seat was next to James. Max sat down and squirmed at the calmness of James. Max had said some awful things to James. James looked over at Max which mad him squirm even more. "Don't sweat it Max. After all I did deserve everything you said. I pushed you into your car." James said coolly. Max pulled out his binder for the class with a little shake. James talked to him. The rest of first period was spent in silence while the teacher delivered his lecture and the students took notes. The next two classes were spent in note taking silence as well. Before the bell rang for lunch James and slipped a note onto Max's desk.
Max opened up the note and was in complete shock as he read what it said.
"Max, Sit with me and my friends at lunch. I have something I want to offer you."
