Seeker
Chapter 5
The seeker is possibly the most important player in Quidditch. The seeker has to have brilliant eye-sight to see the snitch. The snitch is a small golden ball that represents a bird called the Snidget. If a seeker catches the snitch, their team is awarded 150 points and the game ends.
The Snitch:
As I said, the snitch represents the Snidget which was a bird that flies really fast. No one could possibly catch one. But one day someone brought a Snidget in a cage to a Quidditch match and said: "Whoever catches this Snidget will be awarded 150 galleons!". The 150 galleons represents the 150 points! Everyone was going after it and when someone did catch it the bird died. The bird's kind eventually became extinct and since the bird had become an essential part to the game, no one could play. A blacksmith created a version of the bird and called it the snitch. Now, instead of using a bird, we use a replica!
