Cure For Boils

Chapter 3

This is one of the easiest potions. At Hogwarts, it is already taught to
first-years and is commonly used to treat boils (as the name already suggests).

The
ingredients are:

  • 750 ml of water
  • 6 Snake Fangs
  • 4 Horned Slugs
  • 2 Porcupine Quills
  • Flobberworm Mucus

Since
this is a beginner’s potion, all brewing times are adapted to Pewter cauldrons.

     1.
Heat 750ml water to 90°C

     2.
Crush the 6 snake fangs in a mortar and add for tablespoons of the
powder to the cauldron

     3.
Turn up the heat to 110°C for 10 seconds, then to 90°C again

     4.
Stir clockwise until the potion has a pink color

     5.
Let the potion brew for 22 minutes

     6.
Add the 4 Horned Slugs

     7.
Take the cauldron of the flame and add 2 Porcupine Quills, then return
to the heat

     8.
Stir clockwise 5 times at 90°C

     9.
Take the cauldron off the flame – it should stop steaming and have a sky
blue
color

   10.
Add 3 measures (tablespoons) of Flobberworm Mucus

   11.
Let the potion thicken for 5 minutes and stir it to make sure it reaches
its right consistency

   12.
The potion can now be stored for 4 years in room temperature.
