Dandelions - A Harry Potter Short Story
This is not a story about action. This is not a story about adventure. This is a story about loss. Because sometimes, the hardest thing to say is goodbye. All credits go to J.K. TW AND CW: mentions of death
Molly's visit had fazed Remus for a while. She had seemed so kind and welcoming, and when she asked if anything was wrong, Remus wanted to scream out that EVERYTHING was wrong.
But he didn't.
Instead, Remus spent the previous night pacing around his bedroom, trying to actually understand what he was feeling- sadness, grief, anger... anything, really.
The next morning, however, what Remus was really not expecting was another visit from Molly.
"Hiya!" she said, as Remus opened the door. She wore an orange frock, just like yesterday, except her hair was in pigtails today.
"What are you doing here, Molly?" Remus asked. Again, he did not intend for it to come out so harsh, but Molly didn't appear to notice.
"I brought you another flower!" she said, holding out another dandelion.
Remus took it gingerly, glancing back at the vase on his dining table, which only had one flower in it- yesterday's dandelion.
"Thank you," he said. "I'll keep it safe."
"Why are you so sad, Mr. Lupin?" Molly asked again.
Remus' right eye twitched, a nervous habit.
"Because my friends are gone," he said gently. Remus decided not to go into too many details, for he didn't know how strict her parent's rules were on the matter of death.
"You mean, dead?" she said.
These words hit Remus harder than he thought they would.
"Y-yes," he spluttered out. "They're dead."
"Like Giddy and Faby?" Molly asked, and Remus guessed that was her nickname for the Prewett twins.
"Yes, Molly, like them," Remus said sadly. "I'm sorry for your loss."
"I'm sorry for your loss too, Mr. Lupin," she said, smiling slightly. "Have a nice day!" And Molly Prewett skipped off.
