Dandelions - A Harry Potter Short Story
This is not a story about action. This is not a story about adventure. This is a story about loss. Because sometimes, the hardest thing to say is goodbye. All credits go to J.K. TW AND CW: mentions of death
Gideon and Fabian Prewett had unfortunately been casualties of the First Wizarding War.
Their family had immediately been notified via Floo Flames that they had lived a very good life, fighting for what was right.
The twin brothers had died in combat against Death Eaters, and their 6 year-old sister, Molly Weasley, was heartbroken.
According to her parents, Molly had spent most of her time locked up in her room without coming out except to eat or drink.
Fabian and Gideon's parents did not blame the Order. They knew the Order had done everything in their power to keep them safe, so they accepted the fact.
As a gesture of their kindness, they had allowed the Order to keep using the twins' house.
Remus apparated a block away from their home.
He pulled his coat hood over his head tightly and walked down the street quickly.
When Remus reached the door, he tapped his wand on it gently, and it buzzed.
"Password?" said a voice Remus had come to recognize as Hestia Jones'.
"Marmalade Juice," he whispered.
The door swung open to reveal a grim looking Hestia.
"Come in, Remus. We've got some bad news."
Bad news in the Order was usually something around the lines of, "Oh, the Ministry is onto us!"
This was bad news Remus was not ready for.
"Remus, please sit down," Dumbledore said.
Remus wanted to ask many things, like, "Why am I the only one sitting down?" and "Why is everyone so sad?"
But he sat down without a word.
Before Dumbledore even so much as opened his mouth, Emmeline Vance burst into tears, and Hestia and Kingsley Shacklebolt tried to comfort her.
"What's going on?" Remus said, in a slightly demanding tone.
"Remus," Dumbledore said. "Lily and James are gone."
A moment of silence from everyone.
"They're gone. And so is Peter."
Remus did not say anything.
"And- and Sirius is in Azkaban. For killing Peter. Sirius was Voldemort's ally all along."
Remus stood up. "I think... I need a moment."
He walked out of the room and stepped into the bathroom.
Splashing his face with water, Remus still couldn't understand what Dumbledore had said.
Dead?
Murder?
Traitor?
Azkaban?
Suddenly, it all hit Remus' gut in a lump of pain.
He did not leave the Prewett household that night.
Every single member of the Order (except Dumbledore) stayed behind to cook and clean, even though their meeting ended so long ago.
But everyone left Remus alone, because they all knew he needed some space.
Emmeline had made her famous tomato soup for everyone.
Hestia had made sure everyone had something warm and cozy to wear for the chilly night.
Sturgis Podmore made everyone a warm cup of hot chocolate.
Kingsley took away all the protection spells from the house.
Because now that the war was over, they could all relax...
But not really.
Even if none of their families were hurt or killed in the war, their friends still were.
Alice and Frank Longbottom, Marlene McKinnon, Gideon and Fabian Prewett, Edgar Bones, Caradoc Dearborn, Benjy Fenwick, Lily and James Potter, Peter Pettigrew, and so many more.
Everyone might not have known everyone else so well. But they cared for each other like a family.
If one died, they all grieved.
Just because the war was over, their pain was not.
