elpies are shape shifting water spirits that inhabit the British Isles and Ireland. Often taking the form of a horse they lure their victims onto their backs and ride into the water to drown them then eat them. The best defense against a kelpie a placement spell to put a bridal over their head which makes them more or less ride-able.
