Chapter 4: Hagrid's Bigger Hut
Chapter 4
Together, they walked down onto the grounds. They reached Hagrid’s Hut. “I heard they made his hut bigger after the Battle.” Ron said. “He did. It burnt in Battle. Well, beforehand. When Harry and Snape had their showdown.” Hermione said scientifically. “Hagrid must’ve been devastated.” Ron said. “He was. I haven’t had time to talk to him much after the Battle. He was really sad the last time I talked with him. He was sobbing. The last time any of us went together was when Harry gave him Buckbeak.” Hermione said. “It was nice of him, Harry, wasn’t it Hermione.” Ron said. Hermione nodded cheerfully.
When they arrived at Hagrid’s Big Hut, they knocked on what looked to be the front door. The enormous door swung up. In front of their eyes, was a big, fairy giant. His long beard covered his entire face. His moustache wrapped around his mouth, and met the beard. Hagrid took large steps backward, into his enormous house, to stand aside, letting Ron and Hermione in. “Hagrid!” Ron said, taking a seat at his round table. “Hello there Hermione. Ron. I thought yer are already headin’ down ter the grounds.” Hagrid’s brown eyes fixed on Hermione. “Hagrid, we haven’t got time to wander off on the Quidditch Pitch. We need to discuss Buckbeak.” Hermione’s voice had lowered.
“Beaky? What’s he got ter do with all tat?” Hagrid’s voice lowered as well. Ron’s face looked confused. Ron looked up at Hermione. “Buckbeak’s Trial.” Hermione said, more urgent than ever. “Hermione, seriously what were you thinking,” said a voice from the door. It was Harry. He had his blue shirt on with a black zip-up sweater on top. “Going to Hagrid’s without me?” Harry finished. Hermione looked back at Harry. “Hey Harry!” Hermione said. Harry sarcastically waved his hand. The three of them burst out laughing. Hagrid let out a laugh too. Hermione was the first to look back at Hagrid. “Buckbeak was saved.” Hermione said to Hagrid. “Four years ago!” Hagrid shouted, nearly in tears. “It was a miracle!” Hagrid was sobbing by this point. “Hagrid,” Harry said. Hagrid looked up at Harry who was taking a seat beside Hermione. “We saved Buckbeak.” Hermione said for him. “I had a Time-Turner, in my third year, and Dumbl- Professor Dumbledore told me to go back, with Harry, and we can save more than one innocent life.” Harry nodded. “We saved Buckbeak right before they couldn’t find him.” Harry said. Hermione’s face lit up. “And, we used Buckbeak to save Sirius Black.” Hermione said, eyes closing hard. She didn’t want to see Hagrid’s rage if he put it out. Hagrid didn’t rage. He just looked at them in shock. “Sirius Black isn’t caught because-” Hagrid said but Harry cut him off. “Sirius is dead.” Harry said with a sigh, as if he didn’t want to be the one saying it. Hagrid’s face looked relieved.”SIRIUS!? DEAD!?” Hagrid yelled, scrambling out of his seat. “Your godfather, dead!” Hagrid looked like he might throw something. Harry stood up and faced the door. He set his face on the door, his right arm above his face. Harry was devastated. “Hermione got up and hugged him. Ron came and patted him on the back, then whispered, “It’s okay, mate.” Ron joined in with the hug. He and Hermione were hugging him. “It’s okay Harry,” Hermione said. Hermione was on the edge of tears too. Hagrid leaned over them all and squeezed them. Harry, Ron, and Hermione started laughing, but half sobbing. Hermione wiped off her tears. She patted Harry on the back. “Well, Hagrid, we should be going.” Hermione said. “Goodbye ‘Arry, ‘Ermione, and Ron.” Hagrid wiped his tears on his big leather jacket, then shut the door behind them.
