Chapter 11: The Proposal

Chapter 11

Ron and Hermione looked terrified. “I— don’t — think this is helping,” Ron said.  Hermione shook her head. “Ron, we have nothing else,” Hermione said. “We could use a Summoning Charm,” Ron said. “No, we can’t. It’s too far away!” Hermione said. Ron looked slightly disappointed. “Okay,” Harry said. “Ginny, you start your way back. Got your wand, have you?” Ginny nodded, holding her wand up. “Okay, see you there,” Harry added to her, as she rode away. Ron looked Stunned. “I—,” Ron wanted to say something against riding on Thestrals. “You are gonna ride them,” Harry said firmly. Ron looked ready to argue. “Ron, it’s just a few miles.” Hermione said, rolling her eyes. Hermione and Ron took off after Ginny. Harry got onto his broom, with Neville and Luna behind him. Luna, Neville, and Harry took off. “Ready for the big surprise?” Neville said laughing. Luna let out a grin. “I suppose Hermione will be very nice with her answer,” Harry and Neville looked at her astonished. “Well, yeah, they’re best friends.” Harry said.

When they all arrived, they saw Ginny at the entrance hall. “Ron’s taken Hermione in. I am gonna go distract her while you and Ron get,” Ginny lowered her voice. “You-know-what,” Harry nodded along with Neville and Luna. Ginny went inside the castle, and out of sight. Luna and Neville gestured to follow her, and Harry nodded, setting off around the castle onto the grounds. He met Ron at the place he picked out, with a hand in his pocket. “Okay, I picked this out when you were asleep on the couch,” Harry nodded. Ron took his hand out of his pocket, there was a velvet box. “I need you to practise with me,” Ron said. Harry looked confused. “What do you mean?” He asked. “You do the whole—thing.” Ron said, pulling out a ring out of the box. It was a classic ring with a sparkly diamond. “No, I’m not doing that,” Harry said. “You don’t have to get down on one knee, I just need to see how it looks.” Ron said confidently. Harry shook his head. “No, I’m not.” Harry said firmly. “I need to make sure it’s good,” “I can’t believe I’m doing this,” Harry said, snatching the box out of his hands. “Ronald Weasley? Will you marry me?” Harry asked reluctantly. “Yup, that’s the one.” Ron said. Harry handed him the box back. “That made me look like an idiot didn’t it?” Harry asked. “Oh yeah, it totally did. It’s half the reason I made you do it,” Ron said. Harry shook his head grinning. “Come on,” Harry said, taking his wand out. “Accio Ron’s Tuxedo and White Tie!” Ron’s formal wear came zooming out of the castle. It zoomed on him and his clothes came zooming out from under him. “Okay, we need to talk about this,” Harry said pointedly. “I packed it,” Ron said. Harry raised his eyebrows. “You packed the latest tux in London?” Ron grinned. “This is Hermione we are talking about,” Harry shook his head. “You think Hermione Jean Granger will want her future husband to wear the latest tux of that year while proposing?” Harry asked. Ron reluctantly nodded. “No! This is Hermione Granger. She doesn’t like to show off.” Harry said firmly. Ron looked disappointed. “I should wrinkle it,” He said. Harry nodded, grinning. Ron took his wand, pointing it directly at the centre of the tux. Harry thought he would cast a spell with it, but he took his wand, and moved it around the tux. It instantly caused wrinkles.

Just as he wrinkled it some more, people started arriving. “I haven’t got Mr. Granger’s blessing yet,” Ron whispered to Harry. Harry looked astonished. “How did you get him here?” “I told him that I needed to speak to him and his wife,” Ron said, shrugging. He walked over to the Grangers. “Hello Mr and Mrs Granger,” Ron said, smiling. “Hello Ronald,” Mrs. Granger said, with welcome. Mr Granger put his hand out, and Ron grabbed it and shaked his hand. “I wanted to ask you something,” Ron said, lowering his voice a bit. Ron cleared his throat. “I love your daughter, very much,” He started, looking from Mr Granger, to Mrs Granger. “We’ve been together for a year now and we are eighteen.” Ron looked scared. “I— would like to ask for your blessing,” Ron said.  He looked scared. Mr and Mrs Granger looked at Ron. “Ronald Weasley is it?” Mr Granger said. Ron nodded. “You can call me Ron, everyone does,” Ron said. Mr Granger grinned. “You have my blessing, but it isn’t such a big deal to meet in a flower garden,” Ron hoped this question wouldn’t be asked.  “I— forgot to ask you sooner, and this is why I called you both here. I’m proposing to her here.” Ron’s breath must’ve faded. “You are proposing here?” Mr Granger asked. Ron nodded. Mrs Granger smiled. “But we don’t have flowers to give her. I shall pick some!” She said, standing up from a white chair; which had been arranged for the guests. Ron pushed her back into the chair. “Look over there, and don’t look back until I tell you to!” Ron said, reaching into her pocket. Mr and Mrs Granger obeyed, looking confused. Ron took his wand out, pointed it at his hand, and whispered “Orchideous!” A bouquet of roses came into a transparent paper, which wrapped it. “Here, use these,” Ron said, putting his wand back into his pocket. Mr and Mrs Weasley turned around. “How could you have gotten—?” Mrs Granger said horrostruck. Ron shook his head. “Doesn’t matter. Now, my family will be arriving shortly and I want you to meet them—,” Ron looked behind him. He could recognize every face standing in the flower patch. There was Bill and Fleur, dressed in white, with their daughter Victorie, who was born on the anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts. Charlie, with a little baby dragon, which he seemed to be hiding. Percy was there with Audrey and their daughter, Molly. George was standing with Angelina Johnson. Angelina was carrying a soon to be, Fred Weasley ||. Ron smiled, and waved them over to Mr and Mrs Granger.  Mr and Mrs Granger stood up, and shook hands with every red-headed boy there. Mrs and Mr Weasley came hurriedly over to Ron. “Our Ron!” Mr Weasley cried. “Married!” Mrs Weasley said, close to tears. Ron pushed them off. “I’m not married yet.” Ron said. “Oh, but she has to say yes!” Bill said, coming with Victorie in his hands. “Victi has just turned two!” Bill said, raising Victorie into the air, high above his head. “William, you are going to drop your first born daughter!” Snapped Mrs Weasley. Bill lowered Victorie. “Sorry,” He muttered. Fleur came to him. “I’ll take her, shall I?” She asked, snatching Victorie. “Darling, you really shouldn’t risk children’s lives.” Fleur didn’t sound mad at all. She was calm. “Good luck Ronnie,” Fleur said. Ron went brick red. “It’s Ron or Ronald!  ‘Ronnie’ sounds weird! Ron walked over to Harry who was now reading a book labelled ‘A guide to being a Best Man,’. Ron sat next to him. “Hey Harry, I think Ginny is on her way with Hermione.” Harry looked up from the book. “Oh hi Ron. Didn’t see you there.” Harry shut the book closed. Ron noticed, underneath the book, was their ‘History of Magic’, a book which Bathilda Bagshot wrote, and Harry bought eight years ago. Harry sat up. Harry pointed to a hill. Ron looked where his finger was pointing. Ron saw Hermione and Ginny, walking down the hill. Hermione looked confused to see people dressed up. Ron gestured to Harry, which he knew meant, I-Am-Gonna-Go-Get-Her, look. Harry smiled, then stood up, looked at the crowd of laughter, and the type of stuff you’d see at a Family Reunion. Harry pointed his wand at them. “Silencio!” He whispered. Suddenly, the whole grounds went quiet. Harry took his wand again, and said “Evanesco!”  Harry hurriedly put his wand into his pocket. He took his invisibility cloak out of the other, and covered himself. Everyone was invisible. Harry felt proud of himself. Ginny did the same spell on herself, and sat down right next to Harry. Ron took Hermione into the patch of flowers. “Hermione, I know this is where we had our first date,” Ron said, grinning. “Yes. I remember it vaguely.” Hermione smiled. “What's up with all of this?” Ron smiled. He grabbed his robes. He bent down onto his right knee, pulled out the velvet box, and opened it, to show a beautiful, classic, ring. Hermione put her hand over her mouth. She was in tears. “I’ve loved you from my fourth year at Hogwarts—,” Ron was cut off by Hermione. “What?!” She sounded alarmed. “Even in your sixth year with Lavender?” Hermione looked a little angry. Ron nodded. “I used her to get to you,” He said. “Well, it worked,” Hermione said, lightening up. Ron proceeded with his engagement. “I’ve loved you since I was fourteen, and I still love you now,” Ron said. Harry saw Ron was nearly in tears as well. “You are the most important thing that has happened to me. And I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” He cleared his throat. “Hermione Jean Granger, will you make me the happiest man alive, and marry me?” Hermione looked as if she would burst with tears. Harry heard a noise. It was a tiny cheer. His silence spell was wearing off. Hermione looked at Ron. “I—Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! A million times yes! In every language! Ja, Si, Oui, Yes!” Hermione was sobbing. Harry took his wand, pointed it directly at the crowd, and said, “Finite Incantatem,” The silence charm and the invisible charm broke off. Harry took off the cloak and ran over to Ron and Hermione. “Wha—?” Hermione was sobbing with confusion. “Harry! You knew!” She threw her arms around Harry. Harry hugged her back, and Ron joined in.  She looked back and saw everyone. “Mum! Dad!” She ran over and hugged her family. She walked over to Mr and Mrs Weasley. “I have another daughter!” Mrs Weasley said. Hermione laughed. Mr Weasley patted her on the back. “You make Ron happy!” he said gleefully. Hermione wiped her tears, laughing. “Congrats,” Ginny said. Young Victorie got onto her feet, and ran up to Hermione. Hermione picked her up, and whispered “Looks like you got yourself a new auntie,” She laughed, set her down, and set off towards the castle, where out of nowhere, Professor McGonagall and a thousand students appeared, cheering.
