Lesson 6

In our sixth lesson of Charms we learned about Applying Your Will. The topics we studied in this subject include; The Matter of Will, we revisited the Levitation Charm and we also learned about the Sticking Charm. Using magic isn't all about getting the proper incantation right or conducting the proper wand movement its also about willpower, concentration and focus. Willpower is mental power. It is somehow similar to how strength represents physical power. For someone who is non-magical, they would think that willpower is simply a measurement of one's ability to control their emotions, avoid bad temptations and make their thoughts and ideas known. For the people with magical abilities they use willpower to perform magic and to make impossibility, possible. Some spells don't need willpower to work. An example of this might be the Wand-Lighting Charm. Other spells such as the Fire-Making spell needs a fair bit of willpower to successfully cast. You always need to be careful because if your using too much willpower, the more violent the backfire will be if your spell fails. Just imagine pushing on a heavy box. That is how willpower will affect you, but in your mind. Always be careful because if you attempt a spell that you haven't really practiced and you use to much magic, you could find yourself we a very bad headache.

We revisited the Levitation Charm. If you want to levitate heavier objects you will have to expand a greater effort of willpower. Make sure you never lose track of what you are focusing on. You don't want to damage anything. If you want to levitate heavier objects, always visualize the magic flowing from you to the object while your performing the swish and flick movement. Nothing. That is the worst thing that would happen if you don't yet possess willpower. Again though, you can inadvertently target something and find that you're not prepared for the results.

We also learned about the Sticking Charm. For this charm, its strength depends directly upon how much willpower you put forth. This charm is used to stick on thing with another. This spell is only temporary. It is not permanent. Willpower is essential for this spell. Even if your willpower is strong enough to make the charm work, it probably won't last very long. To make the charm last long you need to use more magic. A good casting of the spell results in a bond that lasts for around several days or even weeks if the spell was cast well enough.

Lesson 7

In our seventh lesson of Charms we learned about Concentration. The topics we studied in this subject were; Concentration, Spell Modifiers, the Sunlight Charm and the Dancing Lights Charm. Concentration is an essential part in casting spells. Concentration is something that you don't often see in spellwork. Focus is similar to concentration, but it is in the moment. At the precise moment you are casting your spell, you need to be focused upon the target.
Concentration can be broken down into two categories:
Concentration involves keeping your mind on the effects of the spell once cast.
Concentration also involves keeping your mind and intent on the target once the spell is cast.

Spell Modifiers are when you say the spell and add an extra word afterward that makes it much easier to target the right thing. This is apparently seen in the Locomotion Charm. Not all spells can be modified such as the Levitation Charm. Sunlight Charm and the Dancing Lights Charm are both modifications of the Wand-Lighting Charm, Lumos.

The Sunlight Charm is described as a very powerful flashlight. When witches or wizards are in a place that is dark, they would usually just say the incantation Lumos and light would appear out of the top of the wand. If you want more light then you should use the Sunlight Charm.

The Sunlight Charm allows you to cast a bright beam of directed light, but the Dancing Lights spell allows you to conjure several smaller lights. This charm is an experimental charm and this charm is great practice for concentration. So many lights can be conjured with this one spell.
