Chapter 5
The Great Hall is filling with students, all of whom are rubbing their eyes or yawning. I can't stop smiling, and Joane notices.
"Did you hook up with him last night?" she whispers out of the side of her mouth. I'm taken aback.
"No! Of course not!" I giggle and punch her in the shoulder. She's not smiling. Whats going on?
"Hey, whats up?" I ask her, my brow furrowed. She looks over at Jesse and Una. They're all over Tyler. He's laughing with them, and has his arm around Una and one of her friends. It's like watching a horror movie. Then it gets even worse. Jesse gives Tyler a slobbery kiss on the mouth. He laughs and returns the favor.
I feel like I'm going to throw up. Why is he with them? Didn't he love me? He caught me, called me beautiful... even gave me a BRA! Doesn't that article of clothing symbolize something? My eyes fill with tears. I swing my legs over the bench and run out of the room, sobbing. No. NO.
I reach the library, the only safe place to be. I go to my corner- something I discovered in my third year. There is a section of books that no one reads, in the very corner of the library, surrounded by other shelves. If you push the bookshelf frame, it turns around, into a door. If you go through the door, it leads to a small closet, Maybe 5 by 8. I love it. It's filled with cushions and I have brought my favorite books, ink, quills, and parchment, and I usually do homework here.
I plop down on the cushions and sob my heart out. I love him. Do I still love him?
I sit up and wipe tears from my face. Is this fair? No, Cass. Is this right? No, Cass. Are you going to let him do this? No, Cass. What are you going to do about it, Cass? Find a new boy.
