Chapter 1
I was standing with my luggage
outside the big scarlet and yellow train. I sniffed the air deeply, already
smelling the scent of Hogwarts. I grab my luggage as I make my way through all
the other years towards the Hogwarts Express. The first time I heard the name I
laughed at loud. It reminded me of a Muggle film about a train that takes you
to see Santa. The Polar Express it was called. I had the Prefect pin on my
shirt. I was too proud to wait. I was in my fifth year at Hogwarts. I swear to
you that Griffindor is the best house! Why else would the train be painted my
houses colors? I am closer to the train when I hear a more annoying voice I
could think of, “Oi King!” I turn around to see the handsome face of Sirius
Black walking up to me. I roll my eyes as he snakes his arms around my waist
and hugs me. “Can’t . . . breathe,” I say and he hugs harder, making me gasp
for breath. He eventually lets go and I glare at him making him smirk. “Well
kiss me Reece!” He moves in to kiss, which I block with my palm and say, “In
your dreams, Black.”
“You slain
me, woman,” He said acting heart as he makes a stabbing gesture. “Reece!” I
hear Remus say. I turn to see the brown hair shaggy Marauder make his way
towards me. I hug him and kiss his cheek. “I keep telling you guys, my name is
Reese!” I say letting go. Sirius makes a puppy sad face and says, “You gets a
kiss? Not fair!”
“Life’s not
fair! Where’s James?” I ask looking around for raven black hair and glasses.
“Trying to
snog Evans,” Sirius says and I catch a hint of bitter in his voice. “Aww, is
little Sirius sad that his friend is spending more time with a girl that hates
him then his friend?” I say with innocent eyes making him scowl at me. I grin
before strong arms wrap around my waist and lift me. When I get back on the
group I see the green eyes and thick raven haired boy looking at me with
glasses. “James!” I say as hug him. He grins at me as we make our way onto the
train. We find all the compartments taken so Sirius goes up to some second
years whose eyes are wide from fear of Sirius. “Out!” Sirius barked, pointing
towards the door. They scrambled up and ran out as fast as they could. “Sorry!”
I say to the passing second years. We sit down and I say, “You didn’t have to
kick them out.” I hold out the “have” when I say it. Sirius rolls his eyes at
me and Peter enters. He sits the farthest from me and I find myself leaning
away from him. I hated Peter. He reminded me of a rat. He only follows and
never gets his hands dirty. “Why doesn’t she like me?” James was wailing again
about Lily. “Maybe because you ruined her friendship?” I suggested with venom
in my voice. “You still mad about that?” James asks me and I nod.
“Every time
you bring it up. It was cold and you shouldn’t have jeopardized her friendship
with Sev.”
I see Sirius
roll his eyes and I glare daggers at him. I catch James rolling his eyes and
say, “Which made her hate you more! So if anything you’re pushing her away!” My
voice rises as I see the hurt look on James face. I storm out. Why should I be guilty? He put this on
himself. I findFrank Longbottom,
Lily Evans, and Xenophilius Lovegood sitting in a compartment and I join them.
I find myself sitting by Xenophilius as he says to no one in particular, “I
can’t wait to see all the Nargles. There in the kitchen mostly.” His face was
in a dreamy expression with his corn colored blonde hair and pale blue eyes as
he looks in the distance. I see the Head Girl pin on Lily and ask, “Head Girl,
huh?” She nods, proudness showing in her eyes. I didn’t want to ruin it but I
said, “You do know that James is Head Boy, right?” Her smile faded and she
started playing with her hands saying, “Why won’t he leave me alone?” Frank
Longbottom finally spoke and said in a voice that holds out each word with
puppy dog eyes, “Because he loves you!” He makes sure she hears “loves” and she
grimaced. Xenophilius looks at me with unfocused, dreaming eyes. “I think I saw
a few Nargles fly around your head.” I liked Xenophilius. Before I knew I was a
witch I always day-dreamed and always thought dreams were better than reality
as I waited for something to happen in my life. When I got accepted to Hogwarts
it kind of just left me as I realized magic was real and I didn’t need dreams
to live happy. Xenophilius just never grew out of it. Him and I were close
friends and would sometimes just sit together and dream. We never talked about
it but the company was good. I smile at him a genre smile before leaving the
compartment saying, “When we get to Hogwarts were hunting Nargles!” I leave and
walk right into Lucius Malfoy. I land flat on my bum but he was a little
luckier to fall into the wall so he stayed standing as I helped myself up.
He took out
his wand and pointed it at me. I felt a smirk coming to my face and knew I was
going to say something totally jerky. “Oooh! A wand! I never seen one of those
before! What are you going to do? Attack me with butterfly’s?” I do an arrogant
laugh as people’s heads started poking out of the compartments. I don’t know
why or how but whenever I’m around Malfoy I find myself being arrogant and
rude. I sounded nothing less than a jerk. With him thought I didn’t care.
“Serpensortia!” I hear him say and a snake comes out of his wand a few feet
away from me. My eyes widen and I start to freak a little at the snake’s
advances. I could hear screams but my mind was racing to fast to understand any
of the yelling. No! I know I’ll end up
doing it and then I’m blown! I don’t want to hurt the thing. I start to
scramble away in a crab walk. How did I
get on the floor? I got my wand out and pointed it at the snake. Spells!
Spells! What spells? I wasn’t afraid of snakes and neither were they. I take a
breath as I flick my wand at the snake and it lights on fire, dying and
burning. The snakes screams and everyone in the compartments cheers. They can’t
hear the screams but I can and I feel my heart absolutely break. I hex Malfoy
as I make my way to the way back compartments. There was one big compartment at
the end that kept the luggage. I sit on top of some luggage as I start at the
ground, my thoughts running wild. I did this sometimes. Just sit there and
think. Like I’m meditating of am in some sort of trance. Why snakes? I showed weakness. I could hear the scream of the snake
fresh in my mind as the events play over in my mind. I take a deep breath
before exhaling and trying to get my mind off it. I thought though a book
called Journey to the Center of the Earth
by Jules Verne. I imagine every detail and every word and when I’m done its
time to get on my robes. I get on my robes and I go and find Sev in a
compartment all by himself, deep in thought. I slide in next to him making him
look up at me. He seemed shock before I was hit with his voice filled with
venom, “What are you doing here?” I couldn’t help rolling my eyes as I said,
“Even though Lily stopped being friends with you I didn’t. Unless you don’t
then . . .” I let my eyes travel to the doors and he says, “Wait!”
I let a sly
grin come to my face. “I really miss Lily,” He admits and I nod. “It’s not your
fault,” I assure him. He lets out a snort. “If only Lily will believe that. I
hate Potter.”
I shrug. “I
heard about the thing with the snake and I’m sorry,” He said sorry. I shrug it
off. The screaming came back into my mid but I quickly blocked it off. Sev was
the only one who knew about my things with snakes. I got up to leave and exited
the compartment.
The train
soon stopped and I stepped out the train. I made my way towards the carriages,
which I shared with the Marauders. I ended up sitting by Peter, who I hated. A
lot. Sirius looked very happy at us sitting together. To happy. I end up with a
scowl on my face glaring daggers at him. Once we get off I whisper in his ear,
“You’re dead Black.” He smirked at me as if to say bring it on. I turn away with a swish of my hair. I stop to scratch
a Threstal then make my way towards the Great Hall.
