The Last Halloween
Chapter 1
As I walked home from school I practically froze in the fall breeze. Today was Halloween and everyone was out partying or having sleepovers. I was never a Halloween person - you are who you are.
My feet slapped the pavement on the sidewalk: Clomp! Clomp! Every step I took closer to my house, the more dread I felt in the pit of my stomach. I disliked the old house my mom bought us to live in and I hated the creepy feeling you got when you stepped inside. Worst of all, when mom worked the nightshift at the hospital, it left me sad and alone in a scary old house.
I turned the key in the doorknob and heard a click as I opened the door revealing the house's contents; a table, a few chairs, and boxes galore.
"Mom?" I shouted as I stepped inside and felt a shiver down my spine. No answer. I dropped my backpack and headed towards the kitchen when I suddenly stopped. Bump! Bump! What was that? It sounded like things were falling in the basement, yet I didn't remember putting things in there. Did mom put things in there?
I ran for the basement and the steps creaked behind me as I went down them. Ccrreck! I turned around to see the door close behind me and then I was lost in darkness. I ran back up and grabbed the doorknob and shook it before I realized it was locked. The thumping became louder and louder, closer and closer. Then, the lights turned on and dozens of dolls stood in front of me. Then the lights turned out once again and screams came from every corner of the room.
"LET ME OUT!" I screamed. I felt tiny hands crawling up my legs and I began to cry. No one was here to save me this time. Was this going to be my last time to feel fear? Would I live another Halloween?
