The Start Of The War

Chapter 2

The war started over something we would see as very small but to the Blues was a great offense. The eldest prince of the Reds, Nacktow, was visiting the king of the Blues in his grand castle. When the prince and his entourage of royal guards arrived at the castle they were taken through the gates and into the throne room. They all bowed respectfully to the king who nodded at them and they rose.

"I have a gift for you," said the king and he handed the prince of the Reds a golden sword. Blue custom dictated that when you received a gift, especially from the king, you must take it by bowing over the hand of the giver and saying something along the lines of 'I humbly accept your gift and acknowledge that you have put yourself bellow me.' The prince did neither of these things, instead he simply said 'thank you' and sheathed the sword in his ornamental sheath that had been empty before.

What the prince had done was unacceptable in the eyes of Blue gnomes, the king waited a few seconds to see if Nacktow would correct his mistake. When he did not the king motioned to the soldiers that lined the room. They attacked slaying the prince and his guards before they could react. All except one, a Red gnome guard, whose name is unknown, saw what was happening and ran out of the throne room and out of the castle. He jumped onto his Gnourse, a tiny horse used by gnomes, and rode hard until he reached the castle of the Red king. He told Nocktil of his son's death and the king ordered that his army march on the Blue before dawn broke. This was how the Great Gnomish War started.
