~A Step Back In Time~
Surprisingly enough, our manor is one of the fairer ones in the state. We allow women to become knights and our ladies rule as much as our lords. The peasant women who run the blacksmith, for example, work alongside their husbands. Lastly, both men and women slaves work on the land.
I guess it's both just and unjust.
I was born to the servant Amara and her partner Josef. I call them partners because we servants are not allowed to marry. From the time I was born, I was whisked away to be cared for by the nursery peasant woman, and didn't see my true parents until I was old enough to work alongside them. We're bred like dogs, we are.
At the nursery, they kept the servant children apart from the peasant children. Of course, the noble children had special nannies. My childhood had been bleak. I spent 24/7 in the nursery, sleeping, eating, playing. Finally, at the age of three, I was moved onto the fields.
Yes, that's a very young age, but they just don't care for us, do they? My first job was holding tools for the servants in the fields, giving them weeders, scissors, anything else. At age six, I began to actually work, pulling up carrots and beets and potatoes from the ground and picking tomatoes, strawberries, string beans. Finally, at age ten, I began the work I have here. It's been the exact same routine for six years.
I'm sixteen now.
