Mondelwyn'S Encyclopedia Of Enchantments

Mondelwyn's Encyclopedia of Enchantments was written by Mercurian Mondelwyn, a widely travelled wizard of the seventeenth century. His ambition was to publish a tome containing all spells and enchantments that were practiced wizards of various parts of the world, hence this precious volume. Lost to obscurity, his Encyclopedia has recently resurfaced due to renewed academic interest in the early 1900s, and has proved remarkably insightful on the diversity of charms and curses of the magical world. This book is for both the novice and the master, for the curious and the learned. It describes common charms as wells as complex curses, offering information and inspiration alike. (Author's note: this is an exercise in indulgent spell-making, and thus will contain many non-canonic incantations and spells, and take several liberties with the spells taught in HiH. Nevertheless, I hope this work is appreciated as an exercise in imagination and inspiration. Your support is welcome (through messages etc.)! Variations Of Magic

Chapter 15

A. Targeting Magic

Magic incantations can sometimes be modified to specify the target of the spell. Sometimes the modifiers may simply be saying the name of the object in English (as in the Summoning Charm). More archaic methods include saying the name of an object using its incantational name (mostly in a variation of Latin or Greek). Below are some incantational modifiers that can be used for certain spells.

Head - Skullus (E.g. the Engorgement Charm, Engorgio, as in Engorgio Skullus, or the Shrinking Charm, Reducio, as in Reducio Skullus)

Inanimate Objects

Carpet - Carpetum (E.g. the Flying Charm, Volate, as in Volate Carpetum)
Cloak - Lacernum (E.g. the Conflagration Charm, Inflammare, as in Lacernum Inflammare)
Door - Porta (E.g. the Imperturbable Charm, Imperturbus, as in Porta Imperturbus)
Eyepiece - Oculus (E.g. the Mending Charm, Reparo, as in Oculus Reparo)
Quill - Scribbulum (E.g. the Hover Charm, Levioso, as in Scribbulum Levioso)
Trunk - Cistem (E.g. the Opening Charm, Aperio, as in Cistem Aperio)

Beings, Creatures and Plants

Bird - Aves (E.g. the Caging Hex, Incarcifors, as in Aves Incarcifors)
Muggles - Muggletum (E.g. the Repelling Charm, Repello, as in Repello Muggletum)
Snake - Vipera (E.g. the Vanishing Charm, Evanesco, as in Vipera Evanesco)
Spider - Arania (E.g. the Extermination Curse, Exumai, as in Arania Exumai)
Plant - Arborem (E.g. the Fire-Making Spell, Incendio, as in Incendio Arborem)
