Chapter 2
As my first year was Kailey's fifth, she was able to help me out a lot. I was sorted into Ravenclaw, so she was able to help me through tough homeworks and teach me how to avoid Peeves at all costs. We became fast friends. Around November though, she began to get sucked into prepping for her OWLs. Around this time, I realized that I could probably use some new friends. I tried studying with a group of other first year girls, and even joined the Gobstones club, but to no avail. Finally, I ran into a fellow first year named Linus Fletcher. And by ran into, I mean ran into.
"Sorry! I am so sorry! That was so my fault, sorry!" I was practically squeaking as a scrambled to gather my books. My ink bottle and my DADA essay rolled across the hall as a snatched my History of Magic textbook. Linus dropped his stuff again and grabbed them before they could roll down the stairs.
"Thanks," I said awkwardly as he put them at my feet. I stuffed them in my bag and helped his get his things.
"No problem," he replied. "Hey, that was your DADA essay, right? Did you ever figure out the seventh difference between Werewolves and wolves? I got the rest, but that one stumped me."
"Yeah," I said. "It was their hunting methods. I had to read that chapter four times before I found it. It was in a separate list in the index."
"Thanks! I should probably finish that then... Wanna study for our Charms test later?"
"I'd love to!" I was so excited at the prospect of a friend that I sort of forgot myself. "I mean, yeah. Cool."
"See you later!" He ran off to Transfiguration as I headed for Potions, smiling. As I headed for the dungeons, I saw Kailey heading up to Arithmancy.
"Hey! How was class? I haven't seen you!" I called across the hall.
"Fine. Gotta run. Bye, Janet." She left quickly. I didn't even have time to reply.
"That was odd." I thought. She would usually stop and talk, even if she was late to class as a result. She doesn't usually care about that stuff. It must be the OWLs. Oh, well. We could talk later. I had to get to potions.
