The Lady In Pink
Chapter 9
Once upon a time there were three princesses and they all lived together. One was named Samantha, one Jahira and one Olivia. The three sisters all lived with their mother and father. Queen Meghan and King Tim tried their best to make the lives of their three daughters the best it could be. Always making sure they had the best schooling and had enough food. The daughters were appreciative to their parents but they wanted more.
Their grandparents, who were king and queen of a different kingdom did everything to make sure the young girls got what was needed, but they had to think about their son and daughter. Prince Jonathan, uncle to the three little princesses thought he should be king without question and often acted as if he should be the one in charge. His sister, Princess Kaitlyn, was off with her prince and getting married shortly. The focus had shifted from the three younger princesses to the one older who was unmarried.
The three young girls watched and stood idly by as everyone in the kingdom started to work on the wedding items that needed to be crafted and done before the wedding in one short month. Samantha thought that she has lost her mother, as she was off helping her sister and did not know what to do. She did what she could and stayed to help take care of her younger sisters. One day, while King Timothy was off with Prince Jonathan and Prince Brandon doing what men do, Samantha heard Olivia scream and she came running.
“What is wrong Olivia? Are you ill?” She asked. Olivia shook her head and looked out the window. Samantha looked and saw someone in a pink dress hovering in the garden. She thought she must be seeing things and closed the blinds. “Try to go to sleep Liv. There is nothing outside.” The next thing she heard was the door opening and closing. Jahira was heard laughing and Samantha came running in.
Samantha looked on in amazement. She saw two little rabbits hopping around the room and a woman sitting on a chair making the rabbits appear. She looked at the woman in pink and blinked her eyes as much as she could. She was hoping to wake up. She thought this has to be a dream...this cannot be real. “It is very real little one.” Samantha looked up at the lady in pink. The lady was plump and not too tall. Some would describe her as a gnome but she was taller than that. “Come sit over her my girl.” Samantha froze, she did not know what to do.
The lady in pink smiled. “I am your fairy god mother. My name is Heather but you may call me…” Before she could finish her sentence Olivia was in the room and running to the lady in pink screaming “Coco!!!” Heather smiled and said “You may call me Coco.” Samantha still did not understand. She was the oldest, so how did she not see this pink lady before? Before she could ask, Heather was speaking, “You see Samantha, your sisters already know me. They needed help and I came to their aid. You have never truly needed my help until right now.”
Samantha looked at the youngest Olivia and wondered when she could have needed help from the woman in pink. “Samantha, you may speak freely. Besides I know what you are already thinking before you do.” The lady smiled and walked Olivia and Jahira to bed. “You two do not need my help this time. It is your sister’s turn.” When the lady in pink reappeared Samantha had a list waiting with questions to ask her. “Oh you are a prepared little one. Unlike your mother and grandmother, they just asked what they could think and then send me a mental note later if they forgot something.” Samantha then looked at the lady in pink and could not understand how she knew everyone but her.
“So Samantha, I see you have many questions and need answers before I can help you. Well, let me start out by saying I am 350 years old and have seen almost everything. I helped your mother and your grandmother when they needed help. I also helped your aunt and then your sisters. Olivia I helped when she was just 6 months old. She almost did not make it remember. Well she could not say Heather yet so she had to call me something, and your mother and Olivia came up with Coco. I come to people when they need help the most.
“Please do not misunderstand me because I have heard almost everything before. ‘I needed you this time or I needed you that time.’ If you truly needed me, I would have appeared. You see, I come when there is no other option. When you are not strong enough to get through it yourself and may need some of the magic I have inside of me.” The pink lady stopped long enough to drink some water. Samantha took this opportunity to speak.
“Coco I need help with something I do not understand.” Samantha looked down and tried to say ‘nevermind’ but the lady in pink started talking. “It is called jealousy. Your aunt is getting married and that is a big deal. Everyone in the kingdom is buzzing about it. Even in my world there is a big to do about it. You do not understand why you are not the focus anymore.” Samantha was floored. How did this woman know all this? She never told anyone how she felt. The lady in pink smiled “everyone goes through it and you will get over it.”
Samantha looked at her and smiled. “I know that it will all go back to normal once Kate is married. I just do not understand why you came now. I needed you when all the kids picked on me because of my teeth and because of other reasons.” Samantha had tears in her eyes. She hated the kids at her small school. There were not many but she did not like being made fun of. “You do not need me to save you from them. You can save yourself from them. You show them what is on the inside. You are a beautiful young woman and you need to show the children that. You see, everyone is different. Not everyone will look the same, and those differences are what make everyone who they are. I would have come if I truly thought you needed me.”
Samantha still did not know what to say. “Then, why did you come tonight?” The pink lady sat there and sighed. “You needed me to tell you that you did not need me. You have heard your sisters talk about this ‘aunt coco’ right? The one you have never seen? Well that is me. You see Jahira needed help early in life to adjust to the whole becoming a princess and Olivia needed help to just survive. You on the other hand, you do not need saving. You have so much strength in you that you do not need a fairy godmother. You may want one, but you do not need me.” The pink lady only smiled.
Samantha sat there thinking about what she had said. “You are right Coco, I do not need you right now. But what if I do? What happens then?” The lady in pink smiles and stood up, “I will come when you need me, but I do not see that happening any time soon. You are a brave young woman Samantha and you will be a great Queen someday. I hope to see that and remember to let your own light shine, even if someone does not like the color.” With that the lady in pink was gone.
Samantha did not understand the last thing she said. The young princess assumed it meant the be herself no matter what, until the night of her aunt’s wedding. That night Samantha looked into the sky and say a star that she had never seen before. It was pink.
