Professor Walter Aragon was a wizard that attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry at the end of the 19th century. He was sorted into Ravenclaw and flourished under his house’s instruction. After Hogwarts, Walter spent his days studying magical creatures and writing books on the subject. One such book, Newts of Bognor, can be found in the Hogwarts library to this day. Walter favored the Latin phrase “Mens sana in corpore sano”, which means “A sound mind in a sound body,” during his life and took it for his motto, striving to keep his mind sharp even when he grew old. After his success in the study of magical creatures, Walter became headmaster of Hogwarts. After becoming the school’s headmaster, Walter focused on the preservation of the magical creatures in the Forbidden Forest. He also had an interesting sense of fashion. Instead of wearing robes, Walter would often be seen sporting a double windsor and a smart suit, which was due to him being a fan of King George V.
Upon his death, a portrait was hung in the Headmaster’s office and another was added to the Grand Staircase. The Grand Staircase portrait depicts Walter playing chess with another headmaster of Hogwarts and his long-time friend, Brian Gagwilde. His motto can be seen inscribed on the portrait and both headmasters are usually too transfixed by their game to entertain students; they are blind to all that moves. When he is present in his portrait in the Headmaster’s office, Walter is usually more accommodating to any with questions and will usually speak ad nauseum on a multitude of subjects, but primarily magical creatures.
