Chapter 53

Sir Cadogan’s portrait is found alone in one of Hogwarts’ seventh floor corridors. In his portrait, the knight is undoubtedly charging towards the Wyvern of Wye, the enemy he is most famous for defeating. The portrait shows him with the pony he rode standing behind him and his sword buried in the ground. It shows his love of foolhardy challenges and his determination to beat his enemy.

According to legend, Sir Cadogan’s wand was blackthorn and troll whisker, nine inches, and combustible. As the pure-blood son of wizard father and witch mother, he studied at Hogwarts and was a member of Gryffindor house. Sir Cadogan possessed limitless bravery and was practically obsessed with chivalry, but he was also quite loud and clumsy. It is believed that the knight had three wives, all of whom left him. He is rumoured to have had seventeen children total. Sir Cadogan was also one of the famous Knights of the Round Table, a position he obtained due to his friendship with Merlin.

Because he was the only one brave enough to volunteer, when the portrait of the Fat Lady was was being repaired, Sir Cadogan’s portrait was used as a temporary placeholder and he moved to the entrance of Gryffindor Tower to prevent outsiders from entering. He is known to have changed passwords frequently, making them hard for students to remember.

Sir Cadogan loves to roam in different portraits and pass on news or chat with other people in portraits, as well as with students. He is very social, and is always happy to help people who behave properly towards him. However, if you are not polite, you would do best to ignore any directions he gives you.
