Professor Gilderoy Lockhart was born on January 26, 1964. He is a half-blood wizard and was in Ravenclaw house at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Lockhart was also the "accomplished" celebrity who took the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor in 1992. After graduating from Hogwarts he was the author of many books on dark creatures and his encounters with them. His awards include Order of Merlin, Third Class, Honorary Member of the Dark Force Defense League, and five time winner of Witch Weekly’s Most Charming Smile Award (yet it is important to note that he didn’t get rid of the Bandon Banshee by smiling at her). He was also the inventor of the Occamy egg yolk shampoo, which notably was too dangerous and expensive to market, yet this did not deter him from making it his dream to advertise it.
During his brief stay as a professor at Hogwarts, his classroom was decorated with various paintings of himself, including one painting of himself painting a picture of himself. He was known to give pop quizzes with personal questions about himself such as asking about his favorite color. His students did not learn much from his class as apparent from the numerous reports of Lockhart reading from his books and acting out his favorite scenes. In an unfortunate incident involving the opening of the Chamber of Secrets, Lockhart became the victim of a Memory Charm and was sent to St. Mungos.
After his removal from his post of Defense Against the Dark Arts, his portraits were removed from his classroom and transported to the Room of Requirement. However, during his time at school, Gilderoy managed to hide a portrait of himself in the Divination stairwell that initially went unnoticed. Upon discovering this, a highly amused Professor Dumbledore took pity on him and allowed the portrait to stay but put a Silencing Charm on the painting so that it would quit starting up long conversations with passing students. No one knows who put the Enlarging Charm on his head; however, nowadays the head is twice its original size. It remains in this corridor to this day.
