I guess I didn't introduce myself. My name is Esmeralda, age 15. You can call me Es, though. What a dumb nickname, right? Well, it fits my brain. I recently transferred from Pacific Vista, in California, to Hogwarts High, in the UK. I have a great big ball of curly hair and emerald green eyes. My mother named me Esmeralda for my eyes. My skin is tan. My stomach is flat. But I'm not perfect. I thought I used to be. I was popular at Pacific Vista. Everyone wanted to be me. I thought everything was about me. The students at Hogwarts show me just how stupid I was.

The reason why I'm in the UK is because my dad keeps getting new jobs. He's rich. He's had lots of different girlfriends. He'll buy me anything I want, but I'm not 100% satisfied with my life. There's something missing. And even he can't buy it. It's my mom's life.

My mom died when I was 7. At the time, I didn't know she was dead. My dad just told me she was in a better place. Now I know what " a better place" means. My dad told me how she died. She died for me. We were getting robbed. I was asleep. My dad was about to get shot, but my mother jumped in. (This story is hard to tell.)

From then on, I kept pretending everything was just fine. I think it's the impact on my mother dying that had me acting like a spoiled brat.

 You're probably wondering who Maya is.She was my best friend, or so she thought. I always put her under me. I always bragged about being more popular than her. I bet when I told her I was moving to Hogwarts, she ACTED sad. But she was happy in the inside.
