Chapter 2

Hermione Granger is first introduced to us on the Hogwarts Express.

From the very first moment we meet her, we can already tell she is smart, and very well prepared for Hogwarts.

  “Hermione: Has anyone seen a toad? A boy named Neville's lost one.

  Ron: No.

 Hermione: Oh, are you doing magic? Let's see then.

  Ron: Ahhhmmm. Sunshine, daisies, butter mellow, turn this stupid fat rat yellow!

   {Zap. Nothing happens. Ron shrugs.}

   Hermione: Are you sure that's a real spell? Well, it's not very good, is it? Of course I've only tried a few simple spells myself, and they've all worked for me. For example...{Hermione goes over and sits across from Harry. He points her hand at his glasses and Harry tenses} Oculus Reparo. {The glasses, which noseband is battered, are repaired. Harry takes them off, amazed.} That's better, isn't it? Holy Cricket, you're Harry Potter. I'm Hermione Granger...and you are...?

  Ron: {full mouth} I'm...Ron Weasley.

 Hermione: Pleasure. You two better change into your robes. I expect we'll be arriving soon. {Gets up and leaves, then comes back and looks at Ron.} You've got dirt, on your nose, by the way, did you know? Just there.”

There are a couple things we can learn from Hermione, just by reading these few lines.

   1) First, we learn that Hermione is smart. In the books Hermione said that she'd memorized all her spellbooks by heart. She was able to perform spells without even going to Hogwarts. She is also very well prepared, already dressed in her robes.

1) Do your homework. All of it. You’re assigned homework for a reason, when you do it, you are getting practice and knowledge. If you do so, you’ll most likely end up smarter.

2) Try doing some extra reading on the things you're learning when possible. Hermione always knows the answer to everything because of the effort she puts into her school work and reading. You can also try going to the school library during lunch time.

3) Participate in classes. It's clear how eager Hermione is to participate.

Second, we learn that Hermione is fairly good at introducing herself and is able to easily talk to others.

  You shouldn’t be scared to walk up and talk to people you don’t know. When you meet someone for the first time, properly introduce yourself.

  "I'm Hermione Granger...and you are...?...... Pleasure."

  When you first meet someone, be confident and clearly express your views.
