Where I Grew Up
Chapter 2
I was born and raised in the country. Often I'd run through the paddock, when I was younger, fresh breeze fluttering past my face. The paddocks were over grown with dried grass which was head high for me at that time. Usually, I'd roll through the grass and when I stood up, I'd have grass seed covering my clothes. I was always an adventurous person and there was nothing I enjoyed more than running around.
There were never any animals in the paddocks, non-magical or magical. The only animals we had were two incredibly mischievous, tabby cats and a large, magnificent, white barn owl. My family didn't live on a farm, we just lived out in the country with two paddocks, a large barn and our little country house. My parents said that they decided to live out in the country because the city was full of pollution, cramped houses and was crowded. I believed them and naturally I imagined the city as a dark place, full of angry people, waving fists in traffic and so on.
Unfortunately, as I became older, I gained hay fever. I was about eleven, as I ran out into the paddocks one spring. There was no breeze, it was a dry and warm spring day. The grass was as tall as ever, not quite head height but close enough. I neatly flipped over the fence and landed precisely on my feet. Though because the gate wasn't that high, it wasn't a big deal. Immediately, I ran through the tall grass, seeds bursting from their spot as I bolted through the grass. It was like I was creating a maze, except it was full of mystery. I never knew where I'd end up.
My eyes felt itchy and I had an uncontrollable sneeze. At first I had no idea what it was, so I thought I'd continue through the grass. After a while, it got annoying so I wandered back to the fence and asked my parents if I was ill. Every few seconds I'd utter a bellow of a sneeze, which irritated me. My parents came to a definite conclusion that I had hay fever. They instructed that I could go outside but not near the paddocks during summer and spring. Pollen didn't affect me as much but because I was such a playful, adventurous person this hurt and effected me a lot. It practically gave me a personality change.
One winter, I thought it would be alright if I went in the paddock. It didn't cause as much sneezing and irritated eyes but it was enough to send me back inside. Then I was told not to go into the paddock at all. It was hard for me to not do so because I was very active and lively. It was also hard because we lived in the country with two paddocks. Every time I went outside, I'd wince at the thought of entering the grassy haven. My parents saw how hard it was for me so they introduced me to writing instead.
Of course I had written before because at the time I went to a quiet, country, muggle school. Before that, I had never written in my free time and it became an addiction. My parents were over joyed with my enthusiasm. After a while, I had completed writing my first story. I loved every moment of writing and soon my father was teaching me advanced skills in writing. It became a hobby, which I spent my time on every second I could in my free time. So now I absolutely love writing, even though I might not be the best at it. I always thought it was a shame though, that we had two decent sized paddocks and the only people, (Well creatures.) who used them were our two cats.
