In this year you will need to complete the following subjects: Astronomy, Potions, History of Magic, Transfiguration, Herbology, Defence Against the Dark Arts and Charms. The first thing about year one is that you have to maintain your happiness. Most first year students get bored and upset during work time because the next day they come to school with an attitude plainly saying " I don't want to do this". If you come to school with a positive mindset, your work quality will improve, and you will be generally happier in class. Secondly, make sure you study and do assignments yourself! Of course I don't mean study by yourself though, just do assignments by your self. This really pays off! I remember my first year, I failed my first assignments due to that. Thirdly, Pay attention in class! I know it is a bit of a nag, but I know way too many students who failed their first assignment due to napping. Shoulda had a better sleep buddy... And lastly, do not panic during timed assignments or exams! If you go in there calm, organised and confident, it gives you a much better chance.
