I have wondered if it was possible to summon a spirit ever since I started Hogwarts. My great-grandfather, Zachery Grey, apparently tried the idea himself. My father told me, he was always in his study, jotting down what he should do when he summoned a spirit.

I have his notebook and as I read through it, it appeared he had discovered how to do this. Though he only managed to a few times, it says in his notebook. Unfortunately, before he had succeeded in summoning a spirit safely, he had perished in that very room. I read through his notebook numerous times and every time I had come to a conclusion it was very unsafe. Though no one actually knows, since the spirit had vanished from the room when Zachery was found. My great-grandfather had even conversed with some of the spirits he had summoned.

I too was eager to try my great-grandfather's experiment. Though I am too young, I was told it was possibly safe and incredibly unlikely the spirit would manage to exterminate you.
