Chapter 10
After dinner, we all go into a side room and watch the reviews of the opening cerimonies. Everyone started to cheer when Thresh and I came in view of the screen, but everyone also gasped when they saw District Twelve's chariot and the fire. They had literally outshone all of the other tributes.
After it ends, I go to my quarters and tuck myself into the warm, comfy bed and immediately fell asleep. The next morning after a breakfast of pancakes, waffles, and something called hot chocolate, Lilia showed me the roof, where I could overlook the busy Capitol city. I sat by the edge for a little while, and suddenly I start to cry. What chance did I have, a little twelve-year old? Why would a skinny, small girl win if there are so many buff, big people out there, wanting to have my blood, like Thresh, probably?
The only advantage I have is I'm fast and can easily scurry up trees, but what good'll that do if there are no trees and I'm surrounded? How pathetic that seems compared to all of the tributes who have spent their whole lives training for this, and are good with tons and tons of different weapons. The Career Tributes win almost every year! I've got no chance at all.
The door opens slowly and Thresh appears behind it. He walks over to me and sits down. "Hey."
"Hey." Then he left. Weird.
