Lesson One: Introduction of British Magical History Study Guide

Chapter 2

In the United Kingdom, it consists of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, & Wales. Britain or Great Britain includes these except Northern Ireland. It is thought that Great was used to tell the difference between Britain & Brittany. England is just England. Britain lies on the European Continental Shelf. In the island nation, the North Sea & English Channel are separated from the mainland. In prehistoric eras, Britain was a highland region in northwestern Europe. Due to the sea level being three-hundred & ninety feet lower, the North Sea was non-existent. Doggerland had a land bridge between the two regions.

A glacial lake outburst flood caused a large amount of water to cover this land mass. The Weald-Artois Anticline ridge close to Southern England & northern France held back this water until it broke & covered the Doggerland Bridge. Muggle historians theorize that climate change & the tension of the water & ridge caused it to weaken. Magi-historians theorize that magic weakened the ridge overtime or a magical backfire of some sort.
