After the Tournament

Chapter 6

June 26th, 1995

Today I was at the library saying goodbye to my favourite books when Professor McGonagall arrived and said that the director wanted to talk to me.

“How did the Old Man know?!, he is not a seer!” I thought at that moment, hey, at least I didn't have to find a way to talk to Dumbledore anymore.

I entered the director's office for the first time and I confess that I was a little anxious about that conversation, what was I going to say? When I arrived, Dumbledore was already there, sitting at his desk, waiting for me. He started by asking me if I was okay, I had to say yes, although that wasn't quite true.

“Hazel, during the third task of the tournament what I feared most happened, the return of Lord Voldemort. I have to confess that it was expected that Harry Potter would survive, but the big surprise was that he wasn't the only one to survive, Cedric Diggory also survived. But if it weren't for a special person, he wouldn't be with us right now” as he said this last sentence, Dumbledore smiled at me, HOW DID DUMBLEDORE KNOW!!! I didn't tell Potter or Diggory my identity.

“I'm sure, Hazel, that right now you must be thinking how do I know, right?”. At that moment I was twice as nervous as I was when I entered the room, I just nodded my head.

“Well, after Harry and Cedric got here with the cup, they reported that Voldemort had returned, of course. I asked them to tell me exactly what happened, in private. When narrating what happened, of course, they had to talk about you, the girl who saved them. They told me what they knew about you: you were a Hogwarts student who eventually had to be over 16 and they also told you that you were the daughter of death eaters. After they left, I started to wonder who this girl could be. But what made me realize it was you was the fact that you didn't open your parents' letter the next morning”. After that explanation, I only had one thing to think about: Dumbledore is a genius!

“But what I find most interesting in this whole story is the fact that when you arrived at Hogwarts you were a little girl…a little spoiled…bad for your classmates, but that night, you decided to do what your heart wanted and you refused to do it something you would have loved to do five years ago. Listen to me Hazel, I know you have a crush on Cedric and that love you feel for him gives you the strength to fight and do what you thought was right and remember "Love is the most powerful magic there is"

“I know, but the problem I have right now is that the choice I decided to make was not an option my parents gave me. Now I know that I will suffer the consequences of my choice and I confess that I am afraid teacher, I am afraid of what might happen next” I felt much better after that confession.

“I thought that might happen since you didn't open that letter. I know you don't want to go home because you're scared. What do you think of spending the summer at a friend's house, I'm sure the parents will understand”.

“That's also a problem, I only have one friend and I'm sure he won't want me to spend the whole summer at his house”.

"And if it were another student, I can talk to some parents and see if I can find a place for you to spend the summer, one thing is for sure, you won't be sleeping on the street. When I have information, I'll let you know, okay?"

"Yes, thank you".

I left the office happy that Dumbledore had realized that I didn't want to spend the summer with my family, anxious because I don't know who would want to have me in their house for the whole summer, but also surprised that the Headmaster knew so much, could it be that he is a seer?

June 27th, 1995

This morning Dumbledore sent me an owl saying that he was going to spend the summer with the Lovegood family: Xenophilius Lovegood and his daughter Luna Lovegood. Dumbledore also said that Luna would be waiting for me so we could ride the train together. When I got on the train, there at the entrance was a girl with long blonde hair, earrings in the shape of radishes and a necklace made with butterbeer corks. She and I sat down in an empty compartment and had a little chat. Luna Lovegood is a 14-year-old girl who is in Ravenclaw. She's the daughter of the editor of The Quibbler, a magazine I've enjoyed reading since I got bullied, so I needed something interesting to start reading. When we arrived in London, Luna's father was there and received me as if I were an adopted daughter, I have a lot of admiration for that man. We went to the Lovegoods' and I'm going to sleep in Luna's room with her. Hope all goes well this summer.
