Terrific Movies

CBGB is a 2013 film about the bar CBGB, located in New York, in the 70s and the owner Hilly Kristal, who is played by Alan Rickman. Hilly opens another bar, he’s had multiple before, and starts auditions for bands to play there. CBGB stands for country blue grass blues, and he was hoping that’s what type of music he’d get, unfortunately for him only punk bands showed up. But luckily for those bands hilly gave them a chance. The bar became a place for punk bands to play and grow. And the movie features bands like Dead Boys, Blondie, and The Talking Heads. Hilly quickly became the godfather of punk and his bar was a home to everyone in the punk scene. Along with that lots of bands that played there became something big, the most famous punk, and even just any type of alternative artists played there before getting famous, like The Ramones, and Iggy Pop. Sadly Hilly chooses to spend all his time trying to sign for the Dead Boys, who happened to be one of the most reckless out of all the bands that played there. After everything goes wrong with that plan, he discovers The Police, and that’s where the movie ends. Overall the movie is all about Hilly Kristal, the godfather of punk, and his famously known punk bar. The movie definitely isn’t completely accurate but it’s a fun watch. It also has a great cast, some of it being Rupert Grint (as Cheetah Chrome), Taylor Hawkins (as Iggy Pop), and Donal Louge (as Merv). I 100% recommend this movie to anyone that’s interested in the punk scene, and just anyone in general. It’s a great movie with a great cast, and an amazing soundtrack.
