Spottedkit charged around the nursery. She couldn't wake up anybody, because Leafstar got mad at her. But she was wanting for Skykit, Rosekit, and Featherkit to wake up.

     She decided to look outside the nursery. She had to waste time somehow. Slightly, Spottedkit crept out of the den where the kids and queens slept. When no one yelled at her, she came out all the way.

     Harveymoon was sharing tounges with Plumwillow. They were the next cats expected to have kits, along with Bouncefire and Mintnose. They were so cute together, Spottedkit thought. 

     Spottedkit went to the elder's den. Lichenfur was telling a story to Emberpaw, who was hunting ticks and fleas on Tangle. He spotted the newcomer and nodded his head in greeting.

     "Go on," Emberpaw purred. She loved the stories.

     "Okay," Lichenfur meowed. "So the dog was about Spottedkit's size. It was yapping its little head off. So when it came into my territory, the puny mutt some me up. I ran over to it. Scratch, kick, kapow, the dog was running away, tail 'tween its legs."

     Spottedkit loves the stories told by the elders. "Tell another one. Please!"

     Lichenfur looked over her. "Looks like I can't. Your mother's coming, and she has your sisters." 

     Spottedkit turned around and felt Leafstar's breath on her. "Yes?" she gulped.

     Leafstar only purred. "It's time for you to be apprenticed."

     I'm an apprentice? How could I forget?

     Featherkit stared. "Come on, slowpoke! Last one there is a rotten dove!" All the kits raced to the Rockpile, while Leafstar gathered the cats.

     "Today is a day of celebration," Leafstar said as the last cat gathered out in the center of the camp. "We name for kits apprentices, not to mention that they're mine." Spottedkit heard a few chuckles. "Spottedkit, come forward." 

     Spottedkit bounced with excitement to her mother. Leafstar looked at her with pride in her eyes. "Is it your wish to obey the warrior code and protect your Clan even at the cost of your life?"

     Spottedkit smiled. "I do."

     "Then from this day until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Spottedpaw. And I will mentor you, for better or for worst."

     There were gasps from the crowd. A mother does not usually mentor her own kit. 

     Spottedpaw would've asked her mother why, but she had continued the ceremony. Skypaw was mentored by Sharpclaw. Featherpaw was mentored by Cherrytail. Rosepaw was mentored by Tinycloud.

     "Spottedpaw! Skypaw! Featherpaw! Rosepaw!" SkyClan cheered the new names. The scene seemed familiar. Spottedpaw pulled a memory of of her head. There was a scent she couldn't recognize. 

     Oh well, she thought. Let me celebrate today.
