Chapter 1

Leafstar leaned her head against Billystorm's shoulder. Her mate's fur was warm and soft. She hoped the kits turned out to look like him, because he was a very pretty cat. Any warrior who didn't like him would still agree.

"Do you think he's watching over us?" Billystorm asked. Leafstar knew he meant Skywatcher, the oldest descendant of SkyClan warriors, who died seasons ago. Leafstar shrugged. She didn't mind so was watching her from StarClan as long as Billystorm was beside her.

Suddenly, a sharp pain hit her stomach. She gave a loud gasp, alerting her mate.

"I'll get Frecklewish," he said, and hurried to the medicine den. Frecklewish, who used to be a daylight warrior, decided to stay in the Clan full time. She missed her twolegs, but she was content in SkyClan.

Leafstar looked at the nursery where Clovertail was with her kits, Badgerkit, Honeykit, and Emberkit. All of the orange eyes stared at Leafstar, Emberkit's being the brightest. Leafstar tried to stand up and go to the nursery, but soon collapsed as a spasm of pain shocked her.

"Clovertail," Honeykit asked. "Why is Leafstar on the dirty ground?"

Instead of answering the question, Clovertail put her tail over Honeykit's jaw. She sighed, but the sound was greatly muffled.

Echosong and Frecklewish ran over to SkyClan's leader. Frecklewish checked her stomach. "You were right, Billystorm. They are coming."

Out of the corner of her eye, Leafstar saw her mate puff out his chest, full of pride. She started to purr, but stopped when the pain came, greater than before. She bit get lip.

"I'll get a stick," Billystorm meowed, his pride cut short. He ran off to the birch tree on the border of the camp and firmly gripped a thick stick. He had to jump up to reach it, so when he came down, he was hanging like the twoleg dog they had seen.

Echosong was laughing. Leafstar gave out a tiny shriek of pain. Echosong focused again, and she broke the fragile bubble which encased a beautiful kit, with too many markings to describe.

     Frecklewish smiled. "A girl! A she-kit!"

Leafstar groaned again. The labor was taking a long time to her.

Frecklewish began to luick a second furry lump. It squealed.

"One more," Echosong whispered to Leafstar. "One kit left."

Leafstar shuddered and a third little kit slid out. "What are they?"

"All she-kits," Frecklewish answered. At that moment, Billystorm came back with his stick. He dropped it at the sight of the three kittens nursing.

"They're beautiful," he said softly, gaping at his offspring. "Just like you."

Three days later, the kids had opened their eyes. They were bright, vibrant colors. The three girls were being taught to play mossball by Cherrytail, one of the first warriors in SkyClan. She was a loyal, caring cat, and her brother Sparrowpelt was as well.

Leafstar pricked her ears. She heard rustling in the bushes. Sharpclaw, Petelnose, Bouncefire, and Fallowfern seemed to notice too, for their ears were bent back. Shrewpelt had wide eyes, and was backing towards the elders den. Honeykit stood up to battle.

A she-cat carrying a small kit with opened eyes ran into the camp. The kit was white with red spots going down her tail and paws. There were red lines by her eyes. The kittypet mother looked the same, but with reverse colors.

"Are you the bone eaters?" she said, releasing the kit from her jaws. She blinked her green eyes.

Leafstar held back a mrrow of amusement. "Is that what SkyClan is called?" She shook her head. "What do you need?"

The she-cat was frantic. "My housefolk will take Monica away if I don't give her to another cat. I thought she would survive in the Clan life."

"She will," Echosong says before Leafstar could reassure the mother. "We'll take care of her."

"Good. I don't want her killed." The she-cat padded away.

Should we tell her that we might get killed? Leafstar thought.

"She will officially be my kit," Leafstar meowed to the camp. There were murmurs.

"More kittypets in the Clan?" Tinycloud said. Harveymoon pawed at her playfully.

Billystorm ran to the Rockpile beside his mate. "Monica will be known as a warrior. Her heritage will be hidden."

"What will get her name be?" Sharpclaw asked, tail bristling. This arose more murmers.

Leafstar studied the kit. She noticed a small leaf shaped blotch on her chest, and one name came her mind.

     "Spottedkit."

"What about my name?" The beautiful first born kit walked up below the Rockpile. Her sisters followed.

Leafstar purred. " You will be known as Skykit. Your sisters, They will be Featherkit and Rosekit."

"Spottedkit! Skykit! Rosekit! Featherkit!" The Clan practically screamed the new names.

Echosong whispered in Leafstar's ear. "Don't worry. The clan will forget this soon. They will try not to think about Moni- I mean Spottedkit. She'll be fine."

Then why do I feel betrayal?
